SB 1663 would allow farmers and agricultural businesses to more easily recycle their used tires or tires that are illegally dumped on their properties. This bill would apply to the owner or an employee of a farm or an agricultural business attempting to recycle these tires.
"These farms and agricultural businesses are doing the right thing by disposing properly of used or waste tires," said Senator Denham. "This law will make it easier for farmers and ag business owners to recycle these tires."
Current law requires anyone who hauls more than 9 tires at a time to register as a "Waste Tire Hauler" business with the CA Integrated Waste Management Board. Although well intentioned, the program is a huge impediment to farms and ag businesses to require them to officially become a Waste Tire Hauling business. SB 1663 extends an existing grant program to help these ag businesses be in compliance with the current law.
SB 1663 now moves to the Senate Floor.
