Question: What are the worst 3 mistakes all job seekers should avoid?
Answer:
1. Losing one's composure.
When the economy turns bad, many people are unprepared and feel they need a job right away to pay their bills.
This pressure one puts on them selves comes through in both their interview dialogue and actions.
Therefore, they tend to be perceived as an inadequate candidate.
2. Not using the downtime to open a business or learn new skills.
Almost everyone out there has a business idea and there is no better time than now to give a shot at your dream.
You must get off the couch and do your best to have fun executing an idea that you always wanted to pursue.
If business ownership is not for you, take a class, learn a new language or read.
3. Annoying employers and recruiters with constant phone calls.
Realize that things are moving slow right now and don't harass those trying to find you jobs.
If you are ambitious, intelligent and good at what you do, there is nothing to be concerned with.
Question: What are the best 3 and worst 3 sectors to find employment in right now (May 2008)?
Answer:
Best - Oil, European and Asian Markets as well as IT
Worst - Banking (as of 2008), Any Venture Capital backed firm, Real-estate
