Goal Achieved! John Garamendi Raises more than $300,000 in a month and a half for Congressional Bid
WALNUT CREEK – Today the Garamendi for Congress campaign is excited to announce that it has raised over $300,000 from over 350 donors in a month and a half for its 10th Congressional District special election campaign. Yesterday marked the Federal Elections Commission filing deadline.
"Since early June, dozens of volunteers have walked throughout the district and knocked on thousands of doors; their commitment and energy is the driving force of our campaign," said Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi. "With over $300,000 raised, our growing grassroots efforts will be well-fed and well-supported. I want to thank all my supporters for their hard work. They know that the people of the 10th Congressional District deserve a leader with the expertise, relationships, and drive necessary to instantly be a powerful voice for the issues that matter to the district: quality sustainable jobs, universal health care, affordable education, and environmental stewardship."
California´s 10th Congressional District includes portions of Contra Costa, Solano, Alameda, and Sacramento counties. A special election will be held in late August or early September to replace former Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher who was recently appointed to the State Department by President Barack Obama.
John Garamendi is currently the Lieutenant Governor of California, a University of California regent, and California State University trustee. He was previously an Assemblymember, Senator, Insurance Commissioner, and Deputy Interior Secretary under President Bill Clinton. Garamendi graduated from UC Berkeley with an undergraduate business degree and earned an MBA at Harvard University. Garamendi and his wife Patti also proudly served in the Peace Corps in Africa.
