How now brown cow: Feeding the need for FOOD Share
FOOD Share, Ventura County's largest regional food bank serving more than 41,000 per month, is partnering with the Ventura County Fair to help feed the need of hunger, August 6-14.
Protein-rich foods, including meats and poultry, not only are important components to a balanced diet they are FOOD Share's most needed items.
"During the Ventura County Fair, we are asking the community to help FOOD Share 'Feed the Need' here in Ventura County," said Bonnie Weigel, CEO. "One of the simplest ways is to donate online and contribute towards our protein fund."
August 6 is "Fair Cares" day. Purchase a Ventura County Fair adult admission ticket before 3pm and donate five cans of food for FOOD Share to receive a free return fair ticket valid Monday through Thursday, August 10-13.
The community also can get involved by supporting the Ventura County Fair Junior Livestock Auction on August 14, which will benefit FOOD Share, and winning bidders may donate livestock animals directly to the food bank.
Founded over 30 years ago, FOOD Share collects and receives food year-round, distributing to more than 41,000 people through over 150 partner agencies throughout Ventura County. Its Brown Bag and Snack Attack programs provide supplemental nutrition to about 1,800 low income seniors through 32 agencies and healthy nutritious after school snacks to approximately 1,800 children though 12 agencies countywide.
