MAYOR NEWSOM ANNOUNCES NEW APPOINTMENTS TO CITY BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS

San Francisco, CA – Mayor Newsom announced today the following new

appointments to San Francisco´s Boards and Commissions:

Juvenile Probation Commission

Katharine M. Albright is the Executive Director of the San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center (SFCAPC), an organization dedicated to helping stop the devastating cycle of abuse that endangers children and families in the Bay Area. Albright has over 15 years experience working to protect the well-being of youth. Prior to joining SFCAPC, Albright served as Policy Director for the San Francisco Education Fund, Co-Director of Policy &

Outreach for Preschool California, and as Deputy City Attorney for San Francisco for seven years where she served as Acting General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel for the San Francisco Unified School District.

Albright graduated cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center and received her Bachelor of Arts with honors from Williams College. She is a member of the California and Washington, D.C. bars. Katherine lives in San Francisco with her husband and two elementary school-aged children.

Board of Permit Appeals

Tanya McVeigh Peterson presently serves as Corporate Counsel – Complex Litigation for Hewlett-Packard. Peterson has also worked as an attorney for Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, and as a federal law clerk for the Hon. Robert Kelleher, U.S. District Court (Los Angeles).

Peterson is a Board Member for the San Francisco Zoological Society where she has served as Chair of ZooFest Gala, 2006 and 2007 and Chair of ZooFest for Kids, 2005. She is also active with the Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS)/MMG Foundation where she is a board member of the MMG Foundation which is a non-profit whose mission is to implement cognitive and aesthetic development programs (VTS) in San Francisco schools.

Peterson received her Juris Doctorate (JD) from U.C. Hastings College of the Law, a B.A.in Political Science, magna cum laude, from the University of Southern California and attended Smith College.
