Supporters line up to tell the Presidio Trust they want CAMP.

Presidio of San Francisco, CA – Led by public officials, artists, education advocates and environmentalists – supporters from across San Francisco turned out to the Herbst International Exhibit Hall tonight in support of the Contemporary Art Museum of the Presidio (CAMP).

"This museum will include extraordinary hands-on art, ceramic and photography studios so families from around the City and the region will be able to come and not only see art – but make art and experience art, in one of the world´s most beautiful settings," said Angelo King of the Bayview Hunter's Point Project Area Committee. "It´s a wonderful gift to our city – very much in keeping with San Francisco´s spirit of generosity," said King.

King made his comments while dozens of supporters turned out to the Presidio Trust board of directors meeting and called for the Trust to move forward with the plan to build CAMP at the Presidio Main Post.

"This is the type of cultural investment we need in San Francisco – an investment that continues to enhance our city as a capital of culture and innovation," said Mayor Gavin Newsom. "We have an opportunity to support a tremendous new educational facility, museum and arts education resource in the Presidio that will nurture our children while creating an exceptional new resource for our own urban national park," said Newsom.

CAMP will house over 1,000 works by some of the world's most noted contemporary artists and help attract some of the very best traveling collections from around the world. CAMP will offer hands-on arts education, ceramic and photography studios, rehabilitation of historic buildings and greening of the Main Post parade grounds.
