Unseen facts of Sri Lanka´s civil war

Joe Fleishman
The Tamil Tiger Rebels have declared ceasefire what they said on the purpose of saving the civilians. However, Sri Lankan authorities have rejected the proposal of ceasefire called by Tamil Tigers. The Government has its own simple explanation – they don´t trust Tamil Tigers. Tamil Tiger Rebels have a very bad history and the Sri Lankan government does not want to take anymore chances.

In fact, Sri Lanka wants finish the war soon as possible because of heavy international pressure on them which is just LTTE or Tamil Tigers are looking for. In some of their websites they are doing massive campaign against the military. They are uploading tragic pictures in order to get sympathy from the international community. But Sri Lankan authorities are determined. They are not in a position to stop right now. Because they know what this bloody war is mean to them.

It is in fact true that this war is taking heavy civilian toll, but when your prey is cornered you cannot let it go. It is not like a cat and mouse game. It´s a matter that if you let them go they will not allow you to survive. Sri Lanka´s authorities know this reality –so they are not willing to quit right now.

Although all the victims are Sri Lanka´s own citizen but still Sri Lankans are approving government´s action against Tamil Tigers. It is not easy for Sri Lankans to forget the LTTE´s long felony to the civilian. Sri Lanka paid countless prices for these Tamil guerillas.

Tamil Tigers are now holding a small piece of land area of which is less than 12 kilometers and government is hopping to take away the last territory from the guerillas. Guerillas on the other hand, know they have little hope. So they choose the cheapest and the meanest solution –pushing Tamil civilians in the frontline of the battle ground. They pushed those people forward to whom they have once promised give a better and safer life.

This war should end right now. But also world cannot be a very safer place keeping Tamil Tigers in place. They are the father of many brutal terrorist tactics in last two decades.

Civilian casualty is really one of the sad parts of the war. But brining the civilians in the war zone to use them as a shield –is inhuman. Tamil guerillas are just doing that, letting them die and taking pictures of their mutated body to use it against Sri Lankan government, in order to gain sympathy from the international community.

UN and the international community can enforce Tamil Tigers to surrender their weapons to stop the war now. United States has already enlisted LTTE as a terrorist organization. Rest of the world can do something like that – asking them to lay down their arms. Let this war finish now. World should not buy what Tamil Tigers wants to sell. World should not encourage Tigers to think, that they are not alone, they are not totally isolated from the international community. Do not give the wrong message to these vicious guerrillas.
