Taxpayer Shareholders to Demand Bank of America Fire CEO Ken Lewis. Hundreds To Hold Rally at Bank of America Plaza as Part of Nationwide Demonstration Against Bank´s Opposition to Workers´ Rights, Anti-Consumer Business Practices.

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles City Council is expected to pass a resolution today in support of the Employee Free Choice Act, a bill in Congress that would enable workers to have a voice on the job by deciding to form a union free from interference from their employer. Los Angeles citizens, including workers, community leaders, clergy, veterans and students, will share their stories and speak in support of the resolution.

Following the city council meeting, hundreds of Los Angeles taxpayers will gather at Bank of America Plaza to demand that the bank fire CEO Ken Lewis. At the same time, thousands of taxpayers will take part in actions at Bank of America branches across the country to collect and deliver "Taxpayer Proxies" demanding the bank fire CEO Ken Lewis and end its anti-consumer business practices.

Taxpayers will also demand that Bank of America stop using federal bailout money to lobby against the Employee Free Choice Act – a key component of a broadly shared economic recovery. Just three days after receiving $25 billion in federal bailout funds, Bank of America began to organize opposition to the legislation.

The proxy actions take place on the eve of Bank of America´s annual shareholder meeting in Charlotte, NC. After accepting $45 billion in bailout funds, taxpayers and the government are the largest shareholders of Bank of America and taxpayers in Los Angeles are demanding that their voices be heard.
