Spokesperson Carrie Prejean's Indiscretions Disqualify Her as Traditional Marriage Advocate

Prejean is appearing in commercials on behalf of the National Organization for Marriage. Critics charge hypocrisy.
A recent Associated Press report states that Miss California, Carrie Prejean, may be stripped of her crown for violating her contract by posing as a top-less model and by appearing in a commercial for a group calling itself the "National Organization for Marriage," (NOM) which is opposed to same-sex marriage.
Prejean, a self-identified Christian and traditional marriage spokesperson, made national headlines after she responded to a question during the Miss USA pageant stating she is opposed to same-sex marriage.
Photos of the top-less Prejean wearing only pink panties soon appeared on the Internet.
According to reports, the contract Prejean signed specifically asks whether contestants have conducted themselves, "in accordance with the highest ethical and moral standards" and it uses nudity as an example. In addition, the contract prohibits contestants from making commercials without permission from pageant officials.
Critics Charge Hypocrisy
"I am a Christian, and I am a model," Prejean said. "Models pose for pictures, including lingerie and swimwear photos." But Alicia Jacobs, a judge for the Miss USA Pageant, said the pictures go beyond what is appropriate and are "not befitting" of a beauty queen. During one portion of the contest, the conservative Christian paraded across the stage in front of millions of television viewers in a scant bikini with her stomach, legs, back, and cleavage exposed.
Many raised their eyebrows further when reports surfaced on MSNBC that Prejean had breast implants. According to Shanna Moakler, an official with Miss California USA, the group paid for Prejean's breast implants just weeks before she competed in the Miss USA contest. Moreover, the genuineness of Prejean as a spokesperson for conservative values continued to be called into question when follow-up reports indicated that Prejean is dating Michael Phelps, the Olympic gold medalist who escaped criminal prosecution for an illegal marijuana smoking incident caught on camera. While Phelps apologized for the incident, the escapade cost him his Kellogg's sponsorship contract. Reports do not indicate whether Prejean was with Phelps at the time or if the couple are "romantically inclined."
