Iran: Some More Years of Confrontation
Regardless of the few social programs that Nejad undertook here or there in the poor areas in his country, I believe that his most achievements for his people are as follows:
First: Nejad, unlike his immediate predecessor, succeeded in inflaming confrontation and escalation with Iran's Arab neighbors, leading to extreme skepticisms and arms race in the region. From the problem of the Gulf islands with Emirates, to the aggressive sectarian policies that concern Saudi Arabia to the irresponsible statements about the tiny Gulf nation of Bahrain, to the messing up in the Lebanese and Palestinian affairs and driving Syria away from its pan Arabism approach, Nejad's administration seems to be winning. The reelection of Nejad paves the way for completing this job and even going further to a possible, armed conflict between Iran and some leading Arab neighbors that would surely result in disastrous consequences!
Second: Nejad has been famous for his nasty and irresponsible statements against Israel that served most the right wing and anti peace groups both in Israel and the USA, more than anyone else! Nejad's empty and sarcastic statements were well used by the rightists and their lobbies to undermine any efforts made by peace loving nations and groups, the thing that worsened the condition of the Palestinians and made them suffer more than any time before! Even Hamas that was ready – at a time – to accept the two state solution based on 1967 boarders, has been reshaped by Nejad's administration, which made them eventually turn their struggle against their own people (the saddening confrontation between Fateh and Hamas), undermining all the relentless efforts made by Egypt and other Arab nations to get the Palestinian brothers together! We can see now that every time President Obama tries to pressurize the right-winged Israeli administration to work for true peace that is based on the two state solution, we find the later drifting the attention to Iran and its threat to the "existence" of Israel … Many thanks to Nejad!
Third: Though the Egyptian and Arab stand is the right for any nation, including Iran, to utilize the nuclear technology in peaceful purposes, Nejad's administration succeeded in raising the suspicion and skepticism, among the Arabs particularly and the whole world in general, about the real intention of the Iranian regime behind their nuclear program. Taking into consideration the missile program that is aired every now and then to boast Iran's capabilities, the image of Iran in the region and the whole world is turning to be a state of bad intentions and wicked purposes. Nejad's supporters may, sooner or later, celebrate Iran's nuclear and missile capabilities, but they have to understand that by that time Iran will be nothing more than a mere shadow of North Korea today!
Regardless Mr. Musavi's statements about the credibility of the results or the protests that are shown here or there in Iran against the outcome of the election, the reformists in Iran along with the whole world have to accept the reality that Nejad is back, and that time is the only determinant that will show how far will Iran go and how sturdy the world will be in confronting that administration.
