Tran Promotes Federal Summer Youth Employment Program

California Desk
(COSTA MESA) – The federal summer youth employment program provides a unique opportunity for young adults to gain valuable education and work experience. Specifically, the program allows eligible youth to earn at least $8 per hour, up to 20 hours per week, beginning July 6, and running through September. This program is funded through the federal economic stimulus, and implemented through our local Orange County Workforce Investment Boards. "This program creates opportunities for local businesses to partner with quality, available employees," said Assemblyman Tran. "Partnering together, we can invest in our local communities to help grow our economy."

Assemblyman Van Tran encourages young adults, age 16-24 years old, to become involved in their local summer youth employment program. Every year hundreds of high school and college students are in search of employment opportunities, and this program offers some relief. Assemblyman Van Tran reassured that, "In times of economic turmoil, summer jobs for youth can be a rare commodity. I am committed to creating and promoting opportunities for those who might otherwise be without."

The Orange County Summer Youth Employment Program (OCYEP) is also looking for safe and supervised worksite locations throughout Orange County in which their youth employees may be placed. "I urge businesses to get involved and enable youth to gain meaningful work experience. This program offers a unique opportunity to youth, and it is of the utmost importance to be continually educating and advancing the next generation of adults," said Assemblyman Van Tran.

If you are interested in learning more about this program, please do not hesitate to contact Assemblyman Van Tran´s District Office at (714) 668-2100, or call the OCYEP at (714) 567-7528 or TDD 711.
