This comes as the United States has handed over control of Iraq to the Iraqi Army and Government. The United States has withdrawn back to bases that are established in key areas around the country to provide more of a back up role and support missions as Iraqis try to take the lead in there own countries affairs.

There has been an upsurge in bombings and other attacks as this handover was anticipated by insurgents and other factions that vie for control of certain areas of the country.
