GERD Symptoms Are A Warning Sign
GERD, according to medical science may be defined as chronic symptoms of mucosal damage that is created by abnormal acid reflux in the esophagus. It develops on account of short lived as well as enduring changes in the division between the stomach and the esophagus (food tube) in the human anatomy, which is caused due to the ineffective behavior of the LES or the lower esophageal sphincter, impaired ejection of the gastric reflux from the esophagus or on account of a hiatus hernia. As the reflux reaches the throat, it takes the form of the Laryngopharyngeal Reflux disease.
Heartburn, one of the commonest GERD symptoms, is neither linked to the heart nor does it involve in any burning episode. It occurs only when the LES or the lower esophageal sphincter opens up inadvertently, allowing a small quantity of the acidic stomach content to reflux back into the esophagus. As unlike the stomach which is heavily fortified with mucus lining to protect it from the strong digestive acids, the unprotected esophagus gets scorched with the acid while the sensation of burning fills the affected person that starts from the stomach right up to the throat.
In certain cases, symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) may also occur without any sign of inflammation or injury to the esophagus. Referred to as non-erosive esophageal reflux disease or simply as NERD, it does not often progress to full-blown GERD. As a matter of fact, NERD patients do not display any signs of inflammation or erosion in the esophagus at all. Yet they experience the same type of symptoms as associated with GERD like the burning sensation behind the breastbone for at least 3 months at a stretch. Medical science has explained the phenomenon by suggesting that the nerves lying near the surface of the lining has become so exposed to the acid that it has ultimately penetrated the layers. And it is the nerves that trigger the painful and prolonged symptoms in response.
Yet another GERD symptom concerns Barrett´s esophagus that results in pre-cancerous changes in the tissue lining the esophagus.
Eosinophilic Esophagitis is characterized by difficult or painful swallowing. This symptom occurs when the lining of the esophagus develops furrows and rings.
Treating GERD symptoms is not the correct way to go. What you should actually be doing is finding the real root causes of GERD because if this is not done and only the symptoms are addressed and the real causes remain unaddressed, then GERD is sure to return, which is what happens in most cases when people turn to conventional medications. Turn to holistic remedies instead for the most comprehensive treatment that suggests what food to eat and even lifestyle changes. Holistic remedies are also able to identify the root causes and then they can eliminate them all individually. This is why such remedies offer a permanent relief and is much better suited for all those who are suffering from the symptoms of GERD. Holistic remedies are completely safe, effective and offer quick results too.
