The World Sat in a Classroom, I Hope That We All Learned Something

Michael Jackson had orchestrated his final and finest performance on July 7, 2009. Emotions rang through our collective psyche. Joy, laughter and sorrow just filled us as we listened to stories of Michael Jackson, the human man.

Hopefully what we learned was more about ourselves than Mr. Jackson. Despite any differences that we maintain in our minds, our hearts came together. Races, countries, political parties, religions, well you get the idea, all focused as one. Wow, what a monumental accomplishment.

World hunger, wars, racial, political and religious divides have filled the news outlets back as far as I remember. We see it and hear it every day, death, hate, destruction, poverty. Are we just numb to the fact? Or, if it is not directly affecting our lives, do we really care?

TV outlets around the globe cleared their prime-time slates, satellite radio, Facebook, Hulu and My Space live-streamed the event. It was probably the biggest media and Internet event in history. For what, a universal buzz? Maybe the next time this medium may be utilized to focus and help to solve one of the many world problems.

Michael Jackson was an odd man. But arenīt we all a bit odd in our own insecurities? He had talent though; boy did he have talent, one of the greats. Didnīt we all wish that we could sing and dance like Michael? His attraction to children just creeped us out, but no true evidence ever came out that this was more than a defect in his life, something missing from his childhood. But no adult should have ever consented to let their child sleep over.

Getting back to the problems of the world, well in this aspect Michael Jackson was a visionary, a doer, a humanitarian who contributed close to $500 million to charities over his lifetime. This should be his legacy, what we should all hope to emulate.
