Yul Brynner in THE KING AND I, a wide screen color Delight on July 25 only!
Based on the Rodgers and Hammerstein´s uber-successful Broadway play, THE KING AND I follows the tale of Anna, a widowed schoolteacher´s (Deborah Kerr) journey from England to Bangkok.
Hired as a teacher for the King´s many children, Anna and the King soon form a close bond despite their clash over the differences in their ways and culture. Also starring 24-year old Rita Moreno as Tutim.
This 1956, classic musical garnered nine Oscar® nominations. Among its five wins included Yul Brynner for Best Actor and Musical Scoring. Hit songs from the movie include "Shall We Dance", "Getting to Know You" and "I Whistle a Happy Tune."
Joining us at 8 pm will be Yul Brynner´s daughter, Victoria Brynner plus additional cast members from the stage production and movie. The program concludes on the big screen with a Jack Benny Show classic– Benny and Gisele MacKenzie´s violin duet, "Getting to Know You" and a Bugs Bunny cartoon, The Rabbit of Seville.

Tickets are $13.50 for adults, $9.50 for seniors, students and children (12 and under). Alex Film Society members are $8. Join at the box office with cash or check and save on admission.
Built in 1925, the lovingly restored Alex Theatre (www.alextheatre.org) was reopened in 1994. It stands today as one of the most important surviving examples of grand Vaudeville and movie palaces of the early 20th century and one of the very few extant theatres with an open forecourt.
THE KING AND I, Sunday, July 25, 2 & 8 pm, is presented by the Alex Film Society, a non-profit arts organization celebrating its 15th season and dedicated to the preservation and presentation of classic movies as they were meant to be seen: on the Big Screen.
