RNCīS STEELE HAS TAKEN "LYING" TO EVEN GREATER NEW HEIGHTS

Gary Ater
Just when you think he cannot get any lower, he gets in even deeper with his latest lies and mistruths regarding health care.

...RNC Chairman, Michael Steele

If the GOP would do the following 3 actions, the Democrats would probably be assured of holding on to control of both the White House and the US Congress for at least another decade.

1. First, they should select Sarah Palin to run for US President in 2012.

2. Second, they should convince Ms. Palin to select House Representative, Michelle Bachmann as the Vice Presidential candidate.

3. Third, they should overwhelmingly elect Michael Steele to maintain his position as the Chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC).

In addition, they should continue to support the FOX NEWS cable network as their "network-of-choice" for supporting the GOP. They should also continue to use FOX for spouting the far right conservativeīs lies and the positions of the Republicans in congress and the RNC.

With these actions, unless the Democrats screw-up and form their "circular firing squads" and destroy any progress they might have achieved, the Democrats and the progressives could then stay in political control for many years to come.

And why do I say this?

Well, letīs start with the basic lies as stated in an article this week from the RNC Chairman Steele in the Washington Post.

LATEST LIES BY RNC CHAIRMAN: MICHAEL STEELE:

BIG STEELE LIE: "The Democrats' plan will hurt American families, small businesses and health-care providers by raising care costs, increasing the deficit, and not allowing patients to keep a doctor or insurance plan of their choice. Furthermore, under the Democrats' plan, senior citizens will pay a steeper price and will have their treatment options reduced or rationed."

TRUTH: The current proposal by the president and the democrats in congress would allow Americans to keep which ever plan that their employer provides, unless the employer decides to change his health care provider. (This is already occurring today.) If the employer doesnīt change their provider, the patients would then keep both their plan and their doctors. The "health care rationing" that is already occurring today by the current providers would cease under the proposed plan and with a "Public Option", all health care costs, public and private, would be reduced. The deficit would initially increase during the start-up phase, but would lessen as the new reforms become activated.

MAJOR STEELE LIE: "He (the president) and congressional Democrats are planning to raid, not aid, Medicare by cutting $500 billion from the program to fund his health-care experiment."

TRUTH: The "$500 Billion" that would be cut is for the subsidies to private health care companies that were approved by the Republican Congress in 2003. This is the "Medicare Advantage" program that is provided by private health care companies that provide the same health care that regular Medicare provides, but the tax payers are paying additional fees to private companies for the same coverage as regular government Medicare. "Medicare Advantage" is just a fancy name that the private health care companies came up with for their more expensive private program.

MEGA STEELE LIE: "The president also plans to cut hospital payments and Medicare Advantage, all of which will mean fewer treatment options for seniors. These types of "reforms" don't make sense for the future of an already troubled federal program or for the services it provides that millions of Americans count on. As the president frequently said and correctly points out, Medicare will go deep into the red in less than a decade."

TRUTH: Medicare treatment options will not change under the new health care proposal. (Where do they get these things? Oh thatīs right, itīs all in their heads.) Yes, the current Medicare program is in long-term trouble because the Republicans have been raiding Medicare funds for years and it needs revisions for the future. However, that is a separate issue from the current health care proposals.

BIG-BIG STEELE LIE: "We need to prohibit government from getting between seniors and their doctors. The government-run health-care experiment that Obama and the Democrats propose will give seniors less power to control their own medical decisions and create government boards that would decide what treatments would or would not be funded. Republicans oppose any new government entity overruling a doctor's decision about how to treat his or her patient."

TRUTH: The Democrat and Obama proposals will NOT get between the patients and their doctors. In fact, if you want to keep your current health care plan, the only one between you and your doctor will be the insurance company as it is today. The "Public Option", as we know of it today, would "not have anyone between the patients and the doctors". As with ALL health care programs, both public and private, there would be a panel of doctors and health care professionals that would review and "decide what treatments would or would not be covered". There would be "no government entity overruling a doctorīs decisions".

STEELE'S BALD-HEADED-FACED LIE: "We need to outlaw any effort to ration health care based on age. Obama has promoted a program of "comparative effectiveness research" that he claims will be used only to study competing medical treatments. But this program could actually lead to government boards rationing treatments based on age. For example, if there are going to be only so many heart surgeries in a given year, the Democrats figure government will get more bang for its buck if more young and middle-aged people get them."

TRUTH: Health care today is rationed by all of the current, private health care plans by dropping older or unhealthy individuals. This would stop under the Obama & Democratic proposals. There would also no longer be a "pre-existing condition" clause, which is another way for todayīs "rationing" of health care. As it is today, "critical need", not age would determine if and when a medical treatment would be given.

OFF-THE-SCALE STEELE LIE: "We need to prevent government from dictating the terms of end-of-life care. Many of the most significant costs of care come in the last six months of a patient's life, and every American household must consider how to treat their loved ones. Obama's government-run health "reform" would pay for seniors' meetings with a doctor to discuss end-of-life care. While nonthreatening at first, something that is quite normal for a family to do becomes troublesome when the government gets involved. Seniors know that government programs that seem benign at first can become anything but. The government should simply butt out of conversations about end-of-life care and leave them to seniors, their families and their doctors. "

TRUTH: There is nothing in the Obama / Democratic proposals that "dictates the terms of end-of-life care". The "pay for seniors' meetings with a doctor to discuss end-of-life care" is only to discuss the seniorsī desires such as using hospice, using a resuscitator, staying in your own home, etc. This every 5 year, voluntary meeting would be paid for by Medicare and it is already part of the approved Medicare Part D prescription bill. And the government today is NOT involved with the conversations. All the government does is pay the doctor for his time. Thatīs it! Once again, Chairman Steele is full of bull when he states these "non-facts". He also give no indication of any past medical issues where the government has gotten involved and it became so "troublesome". In fact, the government run VA Hospitals and Medicare are continually touted as having outstanding reputations for taking care of their patients.

A STEELE LIE FROM NOWHERE: "We need to protect our veterans by preserving Tricare and other benefit programs for military families. Democrats recently proposed raising costs for the Tricare for Life program that many veterans rely on for treatment. Republicans support our veterans and believe that America should honor our promises to them."

TRUTH: There has been no reference to date with the Democratic proposals with regard to not preserving Tricare. (As I said, where do they get these things….?)

YOU-HAVE-GOT-TO-BE-KIDDING STEELE LIE: "Barack Obama campaigned on īpost-partisanshipī. As president, however, Obama has shown that he is beholden to his party's left-wing ideologues. It's not too late for him to honor his pledges for bipartisan health-care reform. Reversing course and joining Republicans in support of health care for our nation's senior citizens is a good place to start. Doing so will help him restart the reform process to give Americans access to low-cost, high-quality health care."

TRUTH: President Obama has bent over backwards to achieve bipartisanship on health care. Many of the Republicans ideas were adopted for the current Democratic proposals. Unfortunately, with the "party-of-NO", no matter what is agreed to, they have already said that "if the president wants it, we will vote against it". As right-wing talker Rush Limbaugh wants, the GOP also wants to demonstrate their lack of patriotism by hoping that the new American president fails.

As I said, if the Republicans follow through with my suggestions for Sarah, Michelle and Michael, it will assure long time success for the Democratic party and President Obama. Chairman Steele, keep those lies coming!
