Hatch Mott MacDonald Awarded New Irvington Tunnel Contract

Pleasanton, CA: Hatch Mott MacDonald has been selected by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) to perform construction management services for the $230 - $263 million New Irvington Tunnel. The existing Irvington Tunnel, which was built in the 1930s, is the lifeline of an extensive system delivering drinking water to Bay Area residents. If damaged in an earthquake, repairs could not be made to the tunnel without disrupting water service. The new tunnel will be constructed parallel to the existing tunnel using modern engineering and construction techniques to withstand a major earthquake and ensure uninterrupted flow to customers. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2010 and be completed in 2013.
Hatch Mott MacDonald, world-renowned for its tunneling expertise, selected Black & Veatch (B&V) and CH2M HILL as major sub-consultants for the project, in addition to Local Business Enterprise (LBE) subconsultants: ARA Engineering Group, Lee Incorporated, Thier PR, and Applied Technology & Science. Over 18% of the total scope of work is committed to LBE sub-consultants. The project´s construction manager will be Dan McMaster, a senior tunneling expert with Hatch Mott MacDonald who has constructed nearly 50 miles of tunnels.
