Sony Holland brings her signature vocal style to the Catalina Jazz Club for one set on Wednesday, October 28th at 8pm. She will be backed by a superb combo led by pianist Theo Saunders. This concert will mark Ms. Holland´s debut as a resident of Los Angeles. For the past several years Sony has built an international following while based in San Francisco.

She explains, "In San Francisco I began by singing on the streets at Fisherman´s Wharf. It was a great place to build my chops and to start making fans." Sony quickly moved up from the streets to long residencies in Asia as well as concerts at prestigious jazz festivals and premier venues such as the Blue Note, Yoshi´s, the Dakota, the Rrazz Room and many more. With a wealth of experience to draw upon Ms. Holland feels her best work lies ahead. She is inspired by what she´s heard so far in Los Angeles.

"Since the day I got to town I´ve been going out to hear the L.A. musicians. It is such a treat. There is a high level of talent here. I met (pianist) Theo Saunders after hearing his sextet at Vibrato´s. These cats are absolutely incredible."

She knows that starting over will be difficult. "In spite of what I´ve accomplished elsewhere very few club owners around here know me". Sony and her composer husband (Jerry Holland) landed in a loft downtown. "There were good deals available. The buildings are so solidly constructed that I can practice every day without bothering the neighbors."

The savvy singer is up for the L.A. challenge. "I´ve worked very hard to get to where I am. Becoming an "artist" doesn´t happen overnight, but for the Catalina I´ve got an eclectic set list, a great band and the ability to pull it off. I´m excited to be part of the scene here. I hope Angelenos will give me a chance and come to check out the show."
