Purchasing a Cast Iron Saucepan Set

Many chefs swear by cast iron cookware, though a lot of home cooks tend to use nonstick pans. Just why do chefs like this kind of cookware and home cooks tend to avoid it? Well, there are a lot of good things about these pots and pans, but it can also take more work to keep them in good condition.

One of the most famous features of a cast iron saucepan is that it will last a long time if it is maintained well. It can be passed down from generation to generation, unlike most other types of cookware.

Besides the fact that it is so durable, another advantage is that it heats up evenly and holds heat well, so it does a very good job cooking the food as well as keeping it warm until it is served. With completely cast iron pots and pans, you can reheat you food in the oven using the same pan, which can save an awful lot of time.

Now, for the downside of using cast iron cookware. These cast iron pots are heavyweight. They also require regular coats of oil to "season" them so that they stay in good condition. If you find that's not appealing to have to do, then cast iron pot are most probably not right for you.

One of the best known companies for this type of cookware is Le Creuset. Many of their cast iron pots and pans are porcelain coated, which has some advantages (including the fact that they don't need to be seasoned and you can cook acidic foods in them without getting a metallic taste) as well as some disadvantages (they tend to be more expensive, and if the porcelain gets chipped they are no longer safe to use).

For those that can't afford to spend the price of Le Creuset cookware, there are a number of other companies that make this type of cookware. Lodge, Viners, Skeppshult and Chasseur are additional manufacturers you should check out. Purchasingalready used iron saucepans can be best value for money, due to how long they can last. You should, however, check that they have been kept in good contition and are of high quality.

Additionally to the cast iron saucepan, there are so many super cookware sets to select from, be sure to give plenty of time and select what is most suitable for you.
