Former Philadelphia Police Officer Charged with Robbery and Drug Distribution

PHILADELPHIA—Alhinde Weems, a former Philadelphia police officer, was charged today by information with conspiracy to commit robbery and drug distribution and related charges, announced United States Attorney Michael L. Levy. According to the information, between December 2008 and January 2009, Weems intentionally distributed crack cocaine two times and attempted to distribute a kilogram of cocaine. The information further alleges that in March 2009, Weems conspired to rob another drug dealer and planned to use several firearms to commit this robbery, including his Philadelphia Police Department service weapon. Weems was arrested on a complaint and warrant in March.

If convicted of all charges, the defendant faces a maximum possible sentence of a lifetime in prison, and a fine of $6,500,000.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Maria M. Carrillo.
