Audio Equipment Racks for the Modern Home

Roy Thomsitt
One of the many advantages of new technology has been in the realm of home entertainment. Most particularly, audio video entertainment. The developments in this arena have meant that even lower income families can now afford high quality stereo systems, whereas 2 decades ago such quality was open only to the rich hi-fi connoisseur.

So, just about everyone now has a good or very good sound system. At least, those who want such a system have one. But having those components brings with it another set of problems, most notably where and how to store them.

For many people, home entertainment in any form happens in the living room, so that is where the television, video and sound systems and equipment are likely to be. The problem is, most of us are at least a bit house proud, and like to keep things neat and tidy at the very least. For many, we like the living room décor and furniture to not only be functional but look good too.

The components of a good audio video system are hardly known for their decorous qualities, although some can look quite sleek and may fit into a contemporary stainless steel clad home. Most of us, though, are not quite so ultra modern, so need to find a nice piece of furniture in which to house our components. Component or audio equipment racks that fits well with the rest of our living room décor is what we need. Preferably, an audio rack that does a good job of concealing wires.

It is relatively easy to find a rack or shelving to put your audio gear on, but purpose designed audio racks are not as widespread in designs as you might think. However, you can get them. You can get good examples with a contemporary styling, which have pull out and swivel features making them very practical to handle to. For those who like wood, there are numerous audio racks which will match other wood furniture in the living room.

If you look hard enough, you should find something attractive to store your components. However, be sure to compare dimensions of the rack to the size of your equipment. You do not want to have it delivered only to find your AV equipment does not fit the rack.
