MAYOR NEWSOM APPOINTS BRUCE M. OKA AS NEW MEMBER TO CITY TAXI COMMISSION
Bruce’s community involvement and public service includes serving as the President of the United Cerebral Palsy Association of San Francisco, as well as the President of the Committee on Asians with Developmental Disabilities. He is a Founding Member of the San Francisco Municipal Railway Advisory Committee (MAAC), a Taxi Driver Sensitivity Trainer, SFPD and Driver Sensitivity Trainer, SF Muni. .
Bruce’s involvement with disabled and civil rights advocacy presents a very important nexus for ensuring efficient taxi service and one that is responsive to the needs of all our riders,” said Mayor Newsom. Oka’s dedication to equality and diversity will certainly benefit the Taxi Commission and the city’s taxi industry,” continued the Mayor.
Mr. Oka is an Alumnus of Mission High School and holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Health Education and Health Sciences from San Francisco State University.
Taxi Commissioners are largely involved with ensuring safe, efficient and considerate taxi service for the residents and visitors of San Francisco, implementing unbiased rules and regulations concerning drivers, and providing a transparent forum to explore and debate public vehicle-for-hire services in San Francisco.
