Summer Infidelity - Is Your Husband or Boyfriend Having a Summer Affair?

Ruth Houston
Summer is upon us. The cheating season is here. According to infidelity expert Ruth Houston, summer flings, infidelity and seasonal extramarital affairs flourish during this time of the year. Houston, the founder of www.InfidelityAdvice.com and author of Is He Cheating on You? – 829 Telltale Signs, says there are three types of men who generally have summer affairs.

1. The recreational cheater who considers infidelity a summer sport.

2. The seasonal cheater who has a summer fling while his wife or girlfriend is on vacation.

3. The opportunistic cheater who only cheats when an opportunity presents itself for him to do so without getting caught.

Houston says, “All three of these cheaters consider summer the ideal time to initiate a short-term affair. Yet they’d never think of cheating on their wives or girlfriends at other times of the year.“

Most Summer Affairs Go Undetected

Statistics indicate that anywhere from 50% to 70% of men cheat on their mates. Houston says, “A significant amount of this infidelity happens during the summer months. Much of it goes undetected because of the tactics cheating men use to hide their summer affairs.”

Houston describes some of these tactics below:

Husbands and Boyfriends Play While You’re Away

Many husbands routinely send the wife and kids to the beach, the lake, the country, the mountains, or to visit relatives in another state, “ says Houston. “ Or a man may treat his wife or girlfriend to a cruise, a week at a world-class spa or vacation at a fancy resort. But what’s he doing now that he’s gotten you safely out of the way? Where is he? Who is he with? How is he spending his time?”

Fictitious Fishing Trips

Houston warns, “Some cheating husbands and boyfriends disguise a vacation with a lover as a deep-sea fishing, rock climbing , white-water rafting or similar trip with the guys. Men know that rugged outdoor activities, extreme sports, and other “guys-only-type” male bonding trips are unlikely to be questioned by the women in their lives. But is he really hiking the Appalachian Trail with his buddies? Or could he be soaking up sun in St. Thomas with his summer lover?”

Bogus Business Trips

Many summer cheaters arrange trysts with a mistress by faking bogus business trips,” says Houston. She warns women that even legitimate business trips can provide opportunities to cheat far from the sight of prying eyes. Attending a summer conference or convention without you is the ideal setting to take an office infatuation to the next level. He can pad the beginning or end of his business trip with a few extra days to partake of fun and games. This provides ample time for a budding office romance to become a full blown affair.“

Suspicious Separate Vacations

Has your spouse or significant other suggested (or insisted) that the two of you take separate vacations this year? Where does he plan to go? Who will he be vacationing with? Houston says, “This is a common ploy that cheating men use to lay the groundwork for a summer affair. If he’s too eager, too insistent, and pushes too hard for time alone, you may want to re-think your summer plans.”

What to Do About His Summer Affair

Houston warns “If you see telltale signs of summer infidelity in the planning stage, or already taking place, don’t ignore it thinking it will go away. Let your husband or boyfriend know that you’re onto him and tell him you want it to stop. Failure to speak up will encourage him to do the same thing next year. Worse yet, instead of ending when summer is over, that summer fling of his could become a permanent state of affairs. If he bonds emotionally with his summer love, he may even move in with her or ask you for a divorce.”

Houston says. “Remember, most men who have summer flings are not habitual cheaters. If it looks to risky, or he feels he can’t pull it off without getting caught, most of these men won’t take the chance. So if he’s a recreational, seasonal or opportunistic cheater, stay on top of the situation. Don’t make it easy for him to cheat. The Summer Infidelity Tip Sheet will help keep you from becoming a victim of summer infidelity.”
