Chew toys no longer the norm as items get sophisticated.

Los Angeles, CA - As the biggest shopping days of the year kick off, many will be purchasing gifts for pets. A list of the top 10 pet items was compiled by the popular pet radio station, Dog/Cat Radio, which recently reviewed a variety of the latest pet items at "SuperZoo" – a pet product expo in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"As with last year, many pet owners want items that are fun," says Steve Burdeaux, Dog/Cat Radio manager. "However, this year many pet owners have said they will be shopping for a bit more sophisticated gifts."

Among the top ten pet items: a self-cleaning cat litter box, drinking water bowl with filtration system, anti-bark sprays, plush dolls, gift-certificates (pet resorts, day cares, grooming) and various healthy organic treats.

Now a days humans want the best for their furry guys,” says Jane Harris, radio host. “Pet owners will spend whatever the amount so long as their pets are safe and happy.”

According to the American Pet Products Manufacturer Association 71% of American households own a pet and by the end of 2007 will have spent over $40 billion dollars on their pets. Research also shows more and more pet owners are buying holiday gifts for their four legged friends or people with pets.

Each year, Dog/Cat Radio covers various pet expos, reviews a variety of pet products, and releases an annual holiday gift guide for pet owners.

Pet lovers are now buying with practicality in mind, rather than simple toys such as a tennis ball,” adds Harris. “One can buy those anytime of the year, but during the holiday season, expect pet parents to shop for special and useful items.”
