How to Select a Business Conference Location?

Ugur Akinci, PhD
Say you'd like to host a business conference for your field representatives, associates or prospective (or existing) clients.

What are the points you should pay attention to when scouting for a location? Here are some tips.

A hotel within or next to an airport provides easy access to those attendees flying in from other cities. Recommended especially for short one or two day conferences.

For longer week-long conferences a downtown location might be more appropriate since it provides access to better shopping and entertainment options.

An alternative to a downtown hotel would be a smaller suburban hotel where parking is usually free and not much of a problem. Consider this option especially if you have a lot of visitors not flying but driving to the conference.

Consider renting the conference facilities of universities, local colleges, churches and other similar institutions if you are holding your conference at a suburban location. Some of them provide excellent facilities at bargain prices.

Holiday resorts are excellent both to train and reward your sales organization or other high performers. If booked during the off season you can get very attractive group rates indeed.
