Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO Appoints New Political and Communications Directors

(Los Angeles) -The Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO has appointed new Political and Communications Directors.

Courtni Sunjoo Pugh will serve as the new Political Director for the LA County Federation of Labor. Pugh has over 12 years of experience managing candidate issues and legislative campaigns at the local, state and national levels. Her political expertise ranges from voter outreach to implementing multilayered targeting programs for issue awareness nationwide.

Drawing on the successes of her impressive resume, Pugh has served as Deputy Political Director for Senator John Edwards Campaign for President, Voter Contact Director for Florida Victory 2004 and Campaign Manager for the Alliance for a Better California, Los Angeles County Campaign. Pugh will be the first woman to serve as Political Director for the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO.

Having played an integral part in campaigns nationwide, her commitment to community service extends far beyond her employment history. She most recently served as the Western Region Political Director for the Services Employees International Union where she was the International’s Representative in Politics for California and Nevada. She has also served on the Democratic National Committee, as Legislative Director for Congressman Danny Davis (D-IL), worked with a host of non-profit organizations and has been the recipient of several volunteer and community service leadership awards.


We are very excited that Courtni has decided to join the County Federation,” said Martin Ludlow, Secretary-Treasurer. “I am more than confident she will be an outstanding Political Director. Perhaps the best we’ve ever seen.”

Mary Gutierrez will also join the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor. Her role as Communications Director.

Beginning her career as Press Deputy for the California Democratic Party-Coordinated Campaign 2002, she was responsible for statewide Latino media outreach that included coordinating opportunities involving ethnic press and elected officials. She has served as a Congressional Aide to Congresswoman Linda T. Sanchez (D-CA), and as Communications Director for the California Democratic Party - Every Vote Counts Campaign 2004, where she was responsible for creating and managing a statewide communications plan. Most recently, Gutierrez served as Press Secretary for California State Assemblywoman Nicole M. Parra (D-Hanford).
