MAYOR NEWSOM ANNOUNCES DEVELOPERS FOR 3 HOPE SF SITES
"We must recommit ourselves to the notion that every San Franciscan deserves a decent place to live," said Mayor Newsom. "That´s why we must finish the job of making sure every single remaining public housing unit is rebuilt to excellent standards, so that residents can be as proud of their homes as they are of their city."
The developers were selected through a Request For Qualifications (RFQ) for HOPE SF that drew nine development teams from across the country. The selected development teams include a mix of highly qualified for-profit and non-profit partners as well as a combination of local, statewide and national firms. All of the teams have significant residential development and public housing redevelopment experience in the Bay Area. The development teams are:
Potrero Terrace & Potrero Annex: BRIDGE Housing Corporation, BRIDGE Urban Infill Land Development (BUILD), and the John Stewart Company
Sunnydale: Mercy Housing California, The Related Companies of California(William Witte), and the Visitacion Valley Community Development Corporation
Westside Courts: Em Johnson Interest; TMG Partners; and McCormack Baron Ragan Property Management
With the selection of these teams, SFHA now has selected development partners for four HOPE SF sites. The first HOPE SF site, Hunters View, a 267-apartment complex in the Bayview District, is far along in the predevelopment process and is expected to break ground in the Summer of 2009. That site is being developed by a partnership of the John Stewart
Company, Devine and Gong and Ridgepoint Development Corporation.
The SFHA Commission action allows the SFHA to enter into Exclusive Negotiating Agreements (ENAs) with the development teams. These development teams will then be eligible for HOPE SF funding from the Mayor´s Office of Housing to begin predevelopment work on the selected sites. This work will include site planning and community engagement with residents and neighbors of the HOPE SF sites as well as financial and architectural analysis.
The primary goal of HOPE SF is to rebuild San Francisco´s most distressed public housing sites; while increasing affordable housing and ownership opportunities, and improving the quality of life for existing residents and the surrounding communities. The San Francisco Housing Authority is the oldest housing authority in California. It oversees 6,156 units of public housing and 10,129 Housing Vouchers.
