Riverside County Receives $20 Million in Prop 1B Transportation Funding
Proposition 1B was the $20 billion transportation bond that included $1 billion each for cities and counties to use for local transportation projects. As part of the 2007-08 budget negotiations, Senator Dutton help secure $400 million of those dollars to be allocated to counties for local transportation projects.
Riverside County´s share of the $400 million allocation approved by the Legislature and the Governor in the 2007-08 budget came to $20,277,274.25. They received the funding for local projects in Riverside County in mid-February.
Last week the Riverside County Board of Supervisors approved the first project funded with Prop 1B funds for a project that will repave roads within the Sun City community. Several more projects are expected to be approved by the Board over the next several months.
"I worked very hard to make sure there was the opportunity for cities and counties around the state to have a share of that money for local transportation projects," Senator Dutton said. "I´m glad to see that Riverside County is already using their funds to improve local infrastructure projects in their communities."
Riverside County officials are thankful for the efforts of Senator Dutton to secure local funding.
"Senator Dutton was a key player in getting local funding into Proposition 1B," Riverside County Board of Supervisors Chairman Roy Wilson said. "Through his efforts, Riverside County will reap tens of millions of dollars in transportation improvements."
As part of the 2007-08 budget, $400 million of the $1 billion was made available to counties for local transportation improvements. To date, nearly $200 million has already been allocated.
