Acid Reflux Treatment EXPOSED

Jeff Martin
Acid reflux treatments can be classified into three main divisions: surgical operations; prescription or over-the-counter medication; and holistic, 100 per cent natural remedies. Before giving a brief overview of each of these remedies, I will detail the immediate physiological causes of acid reflux, also known as GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disease) n as a medical condition.

Gastro esophageal reflux disease occurs when stomach acids are regurgitated back into your esophagus. The backwards flow (reflux) of these acids can bring on a multitude of symptoms: a sensation of a salty taste, coughing, pain in the chest, nocturnal attacks of asthma and hoarseness. The primary symptom of GERD is heartburn, a persistent sensation of burning in the chest and the throat.

Acid reflux is, technically speaking, the result of a mechanical failure of the valve situated at the junction of the stomach and the esophagus. This valve is called the lower esophageal sphincter or LES. If the LES fails to shut correctly, then gastric contents are pushed back up to the esophagus. Heartburn then happens as the refluxed gastric acid meets the esophageal lining.

As already mentioned, several different schools of thought exist for treating acid reflux, each approach handling the condition according to its own perception. This, surgery for GERD tackles the weakness of the LES, aiming to strengthen it to prevent acid from touching and inflaming the esophagus. When surgery is done, parts of the stomach are wrapped to encompass the lower esophagus so that refluxed gastric content will not touch the esophagus.

Medicaments, whether prescribed or over-the-counter, have considerable popularity for treating GERD, including antacids, H2 blockers and PPIs. In general, GERD medicaments treat the excess of acidity in the stomach. Sadly, these medicaments are typically only good for temporary relief and cause numerous side effects.

The big disadvantage of treatment proposed by conventional medicine for gastro esophageal reflux disease, which includes surgical and medicinal approaches, is that they only target the superficial or immediate reasons for acid reflux.

Gastro esophageal reflux disease is a complex condition brought on by a combination of factors such as diet, lifestyle and behavior. The right treatment must get to the heart of the problem instead of attempting to constantly prevent or relieve the superficial physical symptoms.

Holistic treatment, based on changes in lifestyle and diet (avoiding acid triggering foods, decreasing and controlling stress, improving sleep, etc.) as well as detox and the use of specific supplements derived from herbs, is the only solution aimed at treating the internal factors of acid reflux instead of the local causes. Different to other short-term solutions that try to focus on immediate relief from often painful and handicapping acid reflux symptoms, the holistic approach treats acid reflux in an all-natural and comprehensive way that can stop and block its recurrence securely and effectively.
