Book Review: The Power Of Two by Dr. Nii Wallace-Bruce

Bruce Collins
When someone, possibly you if I can persuade you, opens up "The Power of Two" by Dr. Nii Wallace- Bruce and peers inside its´ covers, one might mistake this as typical feel good, self help blather emanating from bald headed celebrity psychiatrists or Obama promoting talk show New Agers. What´s the good news about Dr. Wallace-Bruce´s new book? It´s not another volume of self help stupefaction.

What distinctly sets apart "The Power of Two" is the emphasis that steers the reader away from self (or the power of one). Despite the temporary successes men and woman have achieved by doing it "My Way" (as Frankie put it), the book explains the costs involved. Instead of lifting up man, Dr. Wallace-Bruce lifts up the need for relationship with God.

First, he attacks the con of evolution with the sharp precision of facts. As a result, what shatters into jagged pieces are many distorted myths about this flimsy science. Whether you agree or disagree with evolution, you´ll want to see the evidence and arguments that the writer provides. It´s compelling.

Then, the book uses several examples to illustrate how this partnership with God works and how those who forsook the "power of two" failed miserably. Dr. Nii Wallace-Bruce also dissects the many features and benefits of a partnership.

The author uses many examples from Scripture to prove the significant points of his work. He also uses current events (such as, believe it or not, Mike Tyson) to support his views. These true life, topical illustrations draw in readers of many perspectives. However, the book makes its´ thesis clear: you need God or all else is irrelevant.

Chapters include titles such as ´Your God will Empower You´, ´Your God will Provide You with the Resources´, ´Reinvest in the Partnership´ and many, many more. Text boxes, aptly named ´Power Principles,´ conveniently summarize and emphasize important chapter themes.

A chapter titled ´Recession will Come´ deals with the difficulties and turbulence that can happen in life. It shows that this book is not pie in the sky and is extremely practical and useful. Life has different seasons and Dr. Wallace-Bruce covers all aspects.

If you wanted a book about encouragement and direction that shuns the typical new age mantra spewed from books on bookshelf after bookshelf, you should give "The Power of Two" By Dr. Nii Wallace-Bruce a good look.

Dr. Phil move over, Dr. Nii is here.

I can enthusiastically recommend "The Power of Two" and hope to pick up a few copies myself to distribute.
