Is It Just Dust in the Wind?
One day, I was struck by a question of a little kid who asked me whether the US president is as powerful as batman. I couldn't explain that to me one doesn't have to be an extraordinary person or a superman to run for the presidency in the US; what is actually needed among others are sweet tongue, confident look, a little bit of charisma, gigantic budget, and you'll get it all.
In the Middle East, people seem to be very much hopeless about the American presidency because the Arabs, in particular, believe that whoever runs for the White House will go through a preset and predetermined plans that were set long time ago since the Cold War. This 'conspiracy theory' seems to be flourishing even with the Arab leaders themselves.
Many of the Arabs believe that the US is a blind supporter of Israel, and is not a fair broker in the Israeli-Arab peace process. Israelis, on the other hand, are never satisfied; they get extreme anxiety whenever sophisticated US arms are shipped to Arab countries like Egypt, Saudi Arabia or Jordan. Many among the Israelis feel disappointed whenever a US president make any contact with the Palestinian Liberation Organization, or makes any reference to an independent Palestinian state directly or indirectly.
Well, one American citizen might say damn on those idiot Middle Easterners, but I would like to say that a peaceful and prosperous Middle East will definitely mean stronger and richer America. These are not just statements; the Middle East is so rich with the most powerful and precious natural resources, i.e. oil and gas. The Middle East is located right in the Middle of the world, which makes it a unique region for economic and cultural boom and diversification. Any kind of economic integration that can combine the US with the hopefully peaceful countries in the Middle East will mean the creation of countless job opportunities for Americans as well as high government transfers to the American public. A peaceful Middle East will mean also that the American tax payers won't be financing any future military adventures, and the money they pay will instead be ploughed back to the American people.
The new president of the US must do something to end the everlasting conflict in this region between the Arabs and the Israelis, not to open another front, like with Iran, or complete the messy job, that will be left unquestionably undone, in Iraq.
I call upon the American voters; let them be democrats or republicans, to lobby and pressurize their candidates to think of decisive solutions to the Middle Eastern problems, for the sake of better America and better world.
