Dr. Edgar Mitchell (Apollo 14 astronaut) – Aliens and UFOs do exist!

Ian Brockwell
In a recent interview with Kerrang radio (23rd of July), Edgar Mitchell, who walked on the moon in February 1971, stated that we have already had contact with aliens and that UFOs do exist.

Although this may not come as any surprise to those who have been involved in this subject (publishing UFO reports and writing articles about them), the interviewer appeared "shocked" at Mitchell´s revelations.

Naturally, if what Mitchell says is true, this would confirm what we have suspected for many years, but without any solid proof (documents, videos etc.), we are still in the same situation we were before he gave this interview.

Whilst I would love to believe Dr. Mitchell and take his word for this without question, experience has made me suspicious of such claims and I am always forced into investigating the details further.

At first I considered his age (he is almost 78) and thought that maybe this had something to do with his statements. However, I have listened to the interview and he seems in full control of his mental abilities, and sharper than many men much younger.

One of the most popular reasons why some people give interviews and "reveal" information that is designed to attract serious attention, is to promote something (usually a book). So I did a quick search to see if Dr. Mitchell had written any books recently.

Mitchell has written two books, the last one in 1996 called "The Way of the Explorer". However, a revised edition of this was released this year and he has been giving a number of interviews just lately.

He obviously understands the need to promote books (all authors do) and he gave a lecture at the Roswell2004lecture to do just that. Presumably the 1996 version of his book required a little help in getting noticed if it still needed promoting 8 years later? And now we have a revised edition of the same book, which obviously will also require some additional publicity.

Although Mitchell was born in Hereford, Texas, he spent many of his earlier years in Roswell, New Mexico, the location of the most famous UFO "incident" ever.

Kerrang radio telephoned NASA to obtain their comments on the Mitchell interview, but the person who answered the phone was taken by surprise and this showed in his response. Naturally, a person answering the phone (especially at an establishment like NASA) is not going to be a senior member of the organization, so we shouldn´t read too much into that. However, it was interesting that the man said "...let me see who would be willing to dispute what an astronaut says...". Maybe this was just a slip of the tongue?

Astronaut CostumesNASA sent Kerrang radio a response by email later which said "NASA does not track UFOs, NASA is not involved in any sort of cover up about alien life on this planet or anywhere in the universe. Dr. Mitchell is a great American, but we do not share his opinions on this issue. Thanks for the opportunity to comment."

Of course, if NASA were involved in any cover up, they are not likely to admit it. But I found it curious that they made a point of saying "NASA" does not track UFOs, and "NASA" is not involved in any sort of cover up. That was a bit like saying "other people might be doing this, but we aren´t"

What can I say in conclusion? Does Dr. Mitchell have "inside" information? Maybe, but much of what he revealed was secondhand information, he hasn´t seen the evidence for himself. Was the interview a chance to promote his book again? I think so.

I don´t want to seem too hard on Dr. Mitchell and I´m certainly not saying he is wrong. He believes, as many of us do, that aliens and UFOs do exist, but his interview hasn´t changed that fact. In order to truly convince the rest of the world of our beliefs, we need much more proof, words unfortunately are not enough.

I suspect that we shall have to wait until UFOs and aliens arrive on this planet in large numbers before others share our views, and we can only hope this doesn´t take too long to happen. Only an advanced alien race can probably save us from the mess we have made on this planet, and put an end to the corny jokes we have to suffer about UFOs and visitors from another world!
