National radio host "Dr. Laura" To Speak at Right to Life League Benefit
The dinner will take place at the Center at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles. Cocktails will be served at 6 p.m., with dinner following at 7 p.m. Tickets for the event are $75/person and can be ordered by calling the Right to Life League offices in Pasadena at 626.398.6100.
"We´re thrilled that Dr. Laura will be joining us," says Executive Director Anne Hennessy. "As her listeners know, she often refers to herself as ´my kid´s mom.´ We couldn´t ask for a more perfect Guest Speaker to share her thoughts with us on the sanctity of life." Hennessy adds that Schlessinger will encourage those in attendance to write down questions for her prior to her talk on 3 X 5 cards.
" Free flow and unscripted am I!" says Schlessinger with a smile. "I am honored to speak to the Right to Life folks because it is important to support people who have the character and grit to stand up for values that protect the integrity of the very essence of what makes a human being: respect for individual life."
"Dr. Laura," who holds a Ph.D in physiology from Columbia University´s College of Physicians and Surgeons and received her post-doctoral certification in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling from the University of Southern California, is the first and only woman ever to win the National Association of Broadcasters´ Marconi Award for Network/Syndicated Personality. Schlessinger also writes a monthly column for NewsMax and a twice-weekly column for the Santa Barbara News-Press. Her 11th book, "Stop Whining, Start Living," was released in March 2008.
Monies raised from the Right to Life League´s annual dinner will benefit the many projects supported by the Southern California chapter. These include seven medical clinics offering free medical services, including pregnancy testing, ultrasound scanning and some minor pre-natal care; a teen abstinence program entitled Sex, Love and Choices that, to date, has reached 145,000 students nationally; and Project Rachel, a healing ministry for women who have undergone abortions.
"The Right to Life League was founded on the principle that all human life, from conception to natural death, is sacred," explains Hennessy. "We´re a nonprofit and nonpolitical organization committed to supporting not only women who are experiencing crisis pregnancies but the disabled and elderly."
