The League is the newest member of a coalition of workers and community groups that has joined together to elect Ridley-Thomas in the county´s Second District.
"The decision of one of the leading environmental groups in the state to join our efforts speaks to the broad grassroots support for Senator Ridley-Thomas," said Maria Elena Durazo, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO. "It means our communities don´t want more of the same. They want real change - from having access to quality health care and good jobs to cleaner air and safe drinking water."
The coalition known as the Alliance for a Stronger Community began running commercials in support of Ridley-Thomas this week. During the press conference the group also made a commitment to combine their resources and continue their efforts to turn out the vote for Ridley-Thomas. Campaign efforts will officially start this Saturday with the opening of their Culver City campaign office. More offices will open in the coming days. Workers will also begin knocking on doors and making calls to voters on Saturday, October 11th - all efforts that will continue until Election Day.
The Alliance for a Stronger Community is a coalition of labor unions and community organizations that have joined together to elect Senator Mark Ridley-Thomas to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on November 4th. The Alliance represents more than 100,000 members in the Second District. Members have reviewed and participated in dozens of meetings, interactive townhalls, public forums and questionnaires to evaluate and screen the candidates for the County Board of Supervisors.
The Alliance helped Ridley-Thomas to victory in the June primary election by reaching thousands of voters in the Second District. Volunteers communicated to voters about the need to elect Ridley-Thomas – the only candidate in the race for the L.A. County Board of Supervisors with progressive values who is committed to fighting for good jobs, healthcare, education, public safety, gang violence, affordable housing and a cleaner environment.
