Hound Dogs Give McConnell a Taste of His Own Medicine; Clinton and Four Former Governors Urge Vote for Lunsford.

LOUISVILLE - Starting today, Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Bruce Lunsford begins airing a series of television advertisements that underscore the need for change after 24 years of Mitch McConnell in Washington. In his latest commercials, Lunsford calls on some heavy hitters and a blast from the past to amplify his message.

In a reprise of McConnell's infamous "Hound Dog" campaign ads that ran in his 1984 race against Sen. Dee Huddleston, Lunsford turns the hound dogs loose on McConnell and his 24-year record of siding with special interests and lobbyists instead of regular Kentuckians.

"For too long Mitch McConnell has been running away from his record. But now Kentucky is closing in," the narrator says. "Bailing out Wall Street, tax breaks for Big Oil.... Mitch runs and Mitch hides but we're going to catch him. Shipping jobs to China, voting with Bush, one of the most corrupt Members of Congress. No wonder Mitch is running from his record, but he can't run forever..."

In addition to the new Hound Dogs commercial, an A-list of prominent elected officials makes the case for change in two additional ads in support of Lunsford. U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton, who campaigned on Lunsford's behalf in Pikeville and Lexington last month, appears in one ad talking about how Bush and McConnell have led the country in the wrong direction and the importance of voting for Lunsford. "You know what's at stake," Clinton says in the commercial. "George Bush and his Republican allies have led our country astray. So if you care about the economy, about health care, about energy, education, Iraq, Afghanistan - it's a long list. I think that one of the great gifts Kentucky can give our country is to send Bruce Lunsford to the senate and retire Mitch McConnell on November 4."

Also voicing their support for Lunsford are four former Kentucky Governors. Julian Carroll, John Y. Brown, Martha Layne Collins and Paul Patton all appear in a 60-second advertisement. The Governors speak about their personal respect for Lunsford, gained over three decades of knowing him both personally and professionally, and they share with voters why Lunsford will be a fighter in the U.S. Senate who puts the interests of Kentuckians first.

"We need someone who's going to stand up for Kentuckians," Julian Carroll says.

"To go to Washington and make a difference," adds John Y. Brown.

Says Patton, "He knows how to make government work for people."

"Washington needs to be changed," Collins says, "and Bruce Lunsford is the guy to get that done."

In addition to the four Governors that appear in the ad, Lunsford also has the support of former Governors Wendell Ford and Brereton Jones as well as current Governor Steve Beshear.

"I am humbled to have the strong support of Senator Clinton and Kentucky's Governors," said Bruce Lunsford. "We all agree that this is the most important election of our lifetimes. Kentucky needs a Senator who can create jobs and turn our economy around. The Bush-McConnell policies have brought about the financial crisis. Six more years of Mitch McConnell would be more of the same and we can't afford that. It's time for a change."
