Election Tsunami!
You almost get the impression that if World War Three broke out, or we were invaded by aliens from another planet, such news wouldn´t get close to making the front page. Even the world financial crisis is taking a back seat at the moment. It does not seem to matter where you look, the names or faces of Barack Obama and John McCain appear everywhere. Just look at Google´s main news page, they get a mention in almost every category: Business, Sci/Tech, Sports, Health and Entertainment (perhaps no surprise with that one?)
As you study the headlines, you can immediately tell who supports who. Whilst some report the support for Obama growing and his lead widening, others claim that McCain is closing the gap. All using polls that best support their claims or wishes!
In the supporting roles of this Presidential race we have Joe Biden and Sarah Palin, with Palin creating more interest with surfers than the main candidates (according to the top searches made recently on one search engine, and she got better ratings than McCain on Saturday Night Live!). But then this race is not about politics, it is about who pretends to give the most to the voter and how much they spend on their clothes. We must not let a silly thing like "Who is best for the country" stand in the way of the important issues.
This election is becoming like an extended Halloween, plenty of horrors, but no treat to offer with the trick.
In the news we are hearing that Obama´s Aunt (Zeituni Onyango, half-sister of Obama's Kenyan father) might be living in the US illegally. Obama was unaware of this, but according to some, Obama was also born outside of the US and if this is true, he does not qualify to be in the presidential race.
However, as if to confirm that Obama and McCain are working for the same masters, the Republican Party has not jumped on this potentially stunning news, which could hand their candidate victory on a plate. Why is that?
In another article in The Wall Street Journal, they are curious why "former media idolaters of John McCain have suddenly turned on him." adding "They now claim to be horrified by his choice of Sarah Palin, or by his ad hoc economic decision-making, or his TV ads, or something. Whom do they think they've been praising all these years?"
The WSJ say "The John McCain of this campaign is the same as he ever was." I suppose that is as good a reason as any. But let´s be honest, can anyone stand 4 years of his blinking and "my friends"?
That is not to suggest that Obama will be any better, quite frankly they are both a load of......could be better!
I don´t know about anyone else, but I will be happier when the election is over and we can return to the normal news, you know, the articles about threatening Iran, financial crisis, recession, the mess in Iraq, attacks on Pakistan and Syria, threats against Russia, wars in pro-American countries like Georgia, Melamine chocolates from China...
Whatever happened to the good news? What headlines can we expect at Christmas? "Santa Claus assassinated" or "Rudolph the reindeer put down after catching mad cow disease" or maybe "2,000 elves lose jobs as Santa´s factory goes bankrupt!"
Who will win? I really don´t know. But hopefully he will be wearing a nice suit, clean shoes, say lots of really nice stuff, tell me things will change, make lots of promises, sound important, won´t confuse me with the policy details.......
