Field Poll Confirms Garamendi Has Double Digit Lead in Lieutenant Governor's Race

Sacramento, CA — Democratic Candidate for Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi released the following statement regarding today’s Field Poll. The poll shows Garamendi with a double-digit lead among Democratic Primary voters and in the best position to defeat right-wing extremist Tom McClintock in the fall.

I'm gratified by the results of today’s Field Poll, it confirms that this election is about who voters trust to fight for them in Sacramento. California voters know I've always been on their side and focused on the challenges that matter most to California families.

As Insurance Commissioner, I've taken on the special interest insurance industry and delivered results for Californians – billions in rebates, savings, additional benefits and fines. It’s the same approach I took as President Clinton’s Deputy Interior Secretary, protecting our environment from corporate greed.

Californians are responding to my pledge to be their watchdog as Lieutenant Governor. They know I can't be bought and I won't back down from defending their interests.

I want to be California’s next Lieutenant Governor so I can continue to lead the fight for clean energy and the environment, better schools and affordable health care.

But first I'll work everyday between now and June 6 to earn the votes of Democrats across California. Then, as I have done twice before, I will build a coalition of Democrats, fair-minded independents and Republicans so I can defeat Tom McClintock in the fall.”
