Tim O'Brien, Riley Baugus, Dirk Powell headline 'AppalachiaFest' in Pigeon Forge

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (January 2008)—Pure, traditional mountain music from three acclaimed artists—Tim O´Brien, Riley Baugus and Dirk Powell—is the focus of AppalachiaFest in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., on Jan. 13.

The one-night music fest is on the official calendar of the 75th anniversary of Great Smoky Mountains National Park and occurs in the middle of Wilderness Wildlife Week, another official anniversary event.

CMT.com calls O´Brien "one of the spearheads of contemporary bluegrass music," Baugus traces his musical origins to learning to play the fiddle at age 10 and Powell is considered one of the world´s leading experts in traditional Appalachian fiddle and banjo styles.

Their AppalachiaFest concert, with additional music from Boogertown Gap, Mollie O´Brien and Dennis Crouch, is at the Country Tonite Theatre. Tickets are $15 (adult) and $5 (17 and younger). Call 1-800-792-4308 for advance purchases.
