Somaliland: Democracy in Action - VI
London- (Qarannews)- The Somaliland President, Mr. Dahir Rayale Kahin met with the United Kingdom Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary, Mr. David Milliband during President Rayale's official visit to the United Kingdom.
The meeting which took place at the Foreign Office in London included discussion on areas of mutual interest between Somaliland and the United Kingdom.
The President of Somaliland, Mr. Dahir Rayale Kahin and Mr. Millilband discussed the current situation in the Horn of Africa, the forth-coming elections in Somaliland, as well as, the economic, security and democratic development of Somaliland. The meeting was attended by senior civil servants from the British Foreign and Commonwealth office.
Whilst in London, President Rayale aslo gave a speach at the Chatham House. During his address, President Rayale highlighted Somaliland's case for international recognition. President Rayale addressed the gather dignitaries, which included ambassador from EU, Ethiopia, Nigeria, several commonwealth nations, senior Brittsh diplomats,senior academics, members of the British media and members of the general public.
President Rayale remarked on Somaliland shared history with the United Kingdom during and after indepedence in 1960. President Rayale stressed that Somaliland's quest for international recognition is based on the wish of its citizens, who in 2003, gave an overwhelmingy assent to the restoration of indepedence during a national referendum.
President Rayale stated in his speach to Chatham House, that Somaliland has embarked on a democratic course and will continue on this course despite recent attempts by certain terrorist elements to derail the process.
The Somaliland President, Mr. Dahir Rayale Kahin urged the international community to asses Somaliland's case based on its history, the wish of its citizens and the reality of the situation in the Horn of Africa. President Rayale urged the world community to continue engaging Somaliland in order to preserve and protect its stability, democracy and development.
The Somaliland Foreign Minister, Mr. Abdillahi Mohamed Duale also addressed the gathered dignitaries at Chatham House. Mr. Duale highlighted Somaliland's progress during the last eighteen years which have shown remarkable steps toward democracy, stability and development through dialogue, discussion and consensus.
Meanwhile, London, (Qarannews)- The President of Somaliland, Mr. Dahir Rayale Kahin and his delegation, currently on an official visit to the United Kingdom met with members of the All Party Somaliland Group at the Houses of Parliament in London.
Mr. Alun Michael MP, the chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Somaliland welcomed President Rayale and his delegation to the House of Commons.
The Somaliland delegation was also accompanied by the Speaker of the Somaliland Parliament, Mr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi.
The Somaliland President Dahir Rayale Kahin thanked the MP's for their warm welcome and their sterling support of Somaliland and its citizens.
President Rayale gave an overview of the situation in Somaliland, as well as, the current state of affairs in the Horn of Africa. In his brief remarks, President Rayale welcomed the continuing co-operation between Somaliland and the United Kingdom in areas of mutual interest including democracy, security and development.
President Rayale thanked the government of the United Kingdom for their economic support along democratic development.
The members of the All-Party Parliamentary Somaliland Group welcomed the peaceful development in Somaliland, and maintained their intention to support the security and democratic development of Somaliland.
The Somaliland delegation currently visiting the United Kingdom includes, Foreign Minister, Abdillahi Mohamed Duale, Somaliland's Ambassador at Large, Dr. Mohamed Aar, Somaliland representative in Ireland, Abdifatah Saeed Ahmed, Somaliland's deputy representative to the United Kingdom,Dahir Tukale, the President's secretary, Ahmed M. Essa and Dr. Abdillahi Guled Ahmed..
The Somaliland delegation are expected to meet with other senior members of the United Kingdom government in the next few days to discuss areas of mutual interest including the logistical, observational and financial needs of the forth-coming elections in Somaliland. The Somaliland delegation are also expected to meet with Commonwealth secretariat, business leaders and members of the Somaliland community in the United Kingdom.
