Rush Limbaugh Needs a Laxative
Leave it to the Democratic Party to elect the first Black President of the United States, and leave it to the Republican Party and its members to want him "to fail." There are 435 elected members of the U.S. House of Representatives; not one of them is both Black and Republican. All of the Black members of the U.S. House of Representatives are Democratic Party members. There are 100 members of the U.S. Senate; not one of them is both Black and Republican. All of the Black members of the U.S. Senate are members of the Democratic Party.
President Obama is the first African American President of the United States. He was elected in an enormous landslide victory in November bringing with him huge majorities of Democrats to the United States Congress, gubernatorial offices, and virtually every state legislature throughout the nation. President Obama took the Oath of Office just seven weeks ago before record crowds on the National Mall, television, and the Internet. President Obama enjoys huge approval ratings and these very positive approval ratings have remained steady during his administration.
For most of the last 8 years during the Bush-Cheney Administration, Republicans controlled not only the White House, but the United States Congress and many of the courts. As a direct consequence of this Republican control, President Obama has inherited the largest deficit in U.S. history. And he has inherited the worst economic crisis and financial catastrophe since the Great Depression, which was also caused by Republicans. Today, the vast majority of Americans believe the current economic crisis was caused by Republicans and their failed policies. Consequently, most Americans blame Republicans George Bush and Dick Cheney in particular for the horrible economic state we are in.
The Republican leadership does not want to take the blame for their failed policies, so they are doing everything they can to obstruct progress toward a solution by Democrats. They apparently donīt care about the huge numbers of Americans who are unemployed. They only care about shifting the blame. So Republicans want President Obama to fail.
Letīs objectively examine the GOPīs official position on the future of our country in light of the landslide victory that President Obama and the Democrats won last November.
At a time when the United States of America is waging two wars overseas with American soldiers sacrificing and endangering their lives daily, Republicans want our Commander-in-Chief "to fail." According to sources, over 31,000 American soldiers lost their lives in Iraq during the Bush Administration. Since President Obama has taken office, there have been less than 30 American combat casualties.
At a time when our nation is experiencing the worst economic crisis in our history, Republicans want our Commander-in-Chief "to fail." According to CNN, the unemployment rate in this country is rising steadily. President Obama and the Democrats have worked hard to pass a stimulus package to help America through this crisis. Yet Republicans want our leadership to fail.
At a time when our nation is experiencing one of the worst health care crises, Republicans want our Commander-in-Chief "to fail." Ask yourself, are you afraid of getting sick? Are you afraid of getting cancer? Are you afraid for your familyīs future health care? Democrats want to put into place a universal system so that you and your families can benefit from quality health care. Republicans donīt mind if you or your family get sick and die. Thatīs because the Republican Party represents only the interest of large corporations and wealthy people. They donīt care very much about the average American or the plight of the poor. Instead, the Republican Party leadership pays lip service to religious extremists, anti-immigrants, and other crazies who make up the majority of their base while doing nothing to help those in this country who need help the most.
Letīs face it. The majority of Americans in the country are members of the Democratic Party and have been voting Democratic for a long time. People will continue to vote Democratic if Republicans continue down the path of hoping America fails -- and hoping the economic crisis worsens.
To be sure, most Americans conclude that Republican Party policy has failed America. And they want our President to succeed in lifting us out of this GOP-created crisis.
Shame on Rush Limbaugh for wanting our Commander-in-Chief to fail at a time when our country is at war and at a time of extreme economic difficulty. And shame on Republicans for allowing Rush Limbaugh to be the preeminent spokesperson for the GOP.
