How to Detoxify and Cleanse Your Colon in One Swoop

Wong Darren
Cleansing the colon should be part of a larger effort to detoxify the whole body. The aim is to remove trapped waste in the colon, as well as remove toxins circulating in the bloodstream. This can be done by making basic alterations to your food intake.

The power of eating healthily cannot be underemphasized here. The quality of life of a person is uncertain when unhealthy food is dominant.

Food and colon cleansing

The human colon stores solid-phase and semi liquid-phase wastes produced by the digestive system. This is the region of the digestive tract where indigestible materials, toxins and undigested foodstuffs are located for final elimination.

Unfortunately, the colon is also the site where least attention is given. While the colon performs the vital task of holding toxins and protecting the entire physiological system from harm, it is often neglected.

The colon is neglected in many ways; but mainly, the neglect stems from a person´s lifestyle and diet. Nearly all digestive anomalies can be traced to what a person puts in his mouth.

Alterations count

To detoxify, alterations must be made to your present diet. You are in need of detoxification if you say yes to even one of the following:

1. Do you predominantly eat meat?

2. Do you regularly drink coffee?

3. Do you like hard alcoholic drinks?

4. Do regularly consume sugary foodstuffs such as candy and chocolate?

5. Do you neglect to exercise regularly?

Aside from basic alterations like moving from animal proteins to vegetable proteins, some fasting methods are also recommended.

A note on fasting

If you plan to fast to help your colon cleanse itself naturally, remember to do it gradually. Begin by slowly eliminating meat from your daily meals. After the elimination of meat, slowly eliminate vegetables as well.

You can fast safely from between one to three days. During fasting time, you may only consume vegetable stock and water. During this time, you may not drink fruit juices (as these contain sugars).

What happens when you fast? First, the body begins to consume its stored fats (instant weight loss). The consumption of stored fats also encourages the release and elimination of toxins that are stored in fat tissues.

Slowly, you will begin to feel lighter and more energetic as the toxins are expelled. Bowel movement would also become more regular, and elimination of waste is now made easier.

Stick to organic

After fasting, you would want to remain toxin-free. What you can do is to sustain the consumption of only organic and animal protein-free foods.

Mangoes, artichokes and pineapples are especially efficient in helping the liver. Compounds like bromelain and potassium aid in the processing of fatty compounds and also help in the elimination of toxic byproducts.

To help the kidneys, grapefruit may be eaten regularly to strengthen the organ against damage. The potassium present in grapefruit helps regular urination and encourages increased elimination of watery by-products such as unused proteins and excess vitamins.

Figs, prunes and leeks on the other hand, help people who have chronic constipation. These organic foods are natural laxatives that stimulate waste elimination.
