Rolls Royce is owned by, the hugely successful parent company, BMW. BMW found their niche in the luxury, yet sporty automobile lines. BMW enjoys a huge following for their spectacularly well designed and well performing automobiles. Rolls Royce has always set the standards for what true luxury automobiles ought to be or strive to become. Price point or model by model wise these two are not in strict competition. Combining these two giants has maintained the British heritage that has set Rolls Royce apart from her competitors and allowed them (Rolls Royce) to take advantage of the excellent German workmanship and technologies BMW is renowned for worldwide.

BMW offers many models depending on how their persnickety owners want to travel. The 700 series BMW retails for between $80,300 (750i) and $84,200 (750Li). Both offer comfort, quality, and luxury at a medium price range. Rolls Royce´s Phantom V-12 sedan has a MSRP sticker price of $340,000. The Phantom is roomy, luxuriant, posh, and priced accordingly. BMW owned Rolls Royce feels there is wiggle room between those two brands price points where they can effectively position a new contender and reap some serious rewards. What will it be?

Rolls Royce has just unveiled it´s ´baby´ version of the Phantom for the cost conscious elite. Rolls Royce and Bentley usually compete for the higher end marketplace of luxury vehicles. Bentley is owned by Volkswagon. Two seasons ago Bentley rolled out the Bentley Continental GT and it was an overwhelming success. The GT Coupe is sporty and extremely elegant. She was Bentley´s attempt to close the gap. The Bentley Continental GT retails for $197,100 (2009 version). The new ´Baby´ Rolls is a smaller version of her big sister, the Phantom, but no less luxurious. She retails for $250,000 (2009).

Rolls Royce sold 796 Phantom´s in 2008 worldwide. Of those sold in 2008, 148 were sold in the European marketplace, between Brittan and the EU. The remainder of those 796 (648) sold were in exotic locales around the globe, maybe even to someone you know.

The ´Baby´ Rolls was test driven last year in BMW´s Arctic Circle Test Center to resounding applause and widely believed to become a huge success. With the struggling economy Rolls Royce feels they can effectively sell about 1,000 of these new "Baby´ Rolls Royce´s in their first season (2010).
