Puntland – The End of Faroole´s illegitimate & Pirate Regime

Abdulazez Al-Motairi
The people of "Puntland" voiced up against the illegal activities of current regime led by Pirate Man Cabdiraxman Faroole and his henchman Minister of Interior Affairs Colonel Ilka Jiir. The violence spread across the commercial hub of Boosaaso city, "Puntland" and led death of innocent civilians. The public used hand grenades and automatic machineguns against the corrupted police of Faroole´s regime in Boosaaso.

There are two reports from Boosaaso, the first says the fight is between the pirates, militia loyal to former President Transitional Government of Somalia Abdullah Yusuf and the corrupted police of "Puntland". The police are symbolically trying to restore the law and order and gives side to rich pirates; the pirates are demanding extra freedom and privileges to accelerate hijacking business and use "Puntland" as an ideal safe heaven; also, mercenaries loyal to Yusuf are lost between the two – pirates ad police – but they are close to pirates because pirates can pay handsome. The mercenaries arrived back from Mogadishu after collapse of Yusuf´s government, because Yusuf recruited his personal bodyguards and private security from his birth place – The "Puntland". Amnesty International accused these mercenaries and Ethiopians for killing civilians in Mogadishu.

The other unconfirmed report by (Garoweonline.com) says "it is not clear why the PIS targeted Sheikh Osman, but unconfirmed reports said the arrested cleric recently returned from a visit to the port of Kismayo, which is under the control Al Shabaab, an Islamist guerrilla group considered a terrorist organization by the U.S. government." The report added

"Meanwhile, Gen. Abdisamad Ali Shire, Puntland's vice president, spoke live on Bossaso radio stations and urged the public to calm down, while sending condolences to the families of the deceased." Garowe online added "The situation in Bossaso returned to a state of normalcy by the evening, as meetings continued between government officials, traditional elders and local clerics."

All in all, what is happening today in "Puntland" is a result of corruption, human trafficking, piracy and counterfeit. "Puntland" was center of all these aforesaid illegal activities for more than a decade. The politics is very much depends on income from these activities, even the newly elected president and his government is product of ransom money.

Many businessmen in "Puntland" are either financiers of Al-Itahad Al-Islamiya – terrorist armed group in Ethiopia – or big fishes in piracy and human trafficking. The mounting illegality and corruption in "Puntland" is timed bomb that can result instability in the region.

Today, the people in the region should act against the illegal activities including piracy and unjust arrests of Faroole´s government of many naive civilians. The public acted against the government crackdown of civilians in favor of unknown party. The reports confirmed extensive violence and looting in the city.

Recently, UN General Secretary Ban Ki-Moon Office reported link between the government in "Puntland" and pirates, where the pirates have access to every corner in "Puntland", even they are considered a heroes protecting the Somali water.
