Ventura County Food Bank, FOOD Share today announced that it has received a donation of nearly $29,000 from the Macy´s West Thanks for Sharing Campaign. The funds will be used to help provide food and groceries to the nearly 40,000 people served each month by FOOD Share.

Thanks for Sharing program raised nearly $1.5 million dollars for Feeding America. The donation will be shared by 39 members of the Feeding America food bank network in the Macy´s West service, which includes California, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Montana, Nebraska, Utah, Idaho, Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, Colorado and Hawaii.

"This donation comes at a critical time for our food bank," said Bonnie Weigel, CEO of FOOD Share. "As the economy continues to worsen, we are seeing our existing clients needing help more than ever, and all kinds of new faces showing up at our food pantries – people who never imagined that one day they would need help feeding their families. We are extremely grateful to Macy´s West for their support and help."

For each $25 enrollment into the program, Macy´s donated $10 to participating local charities. As a thank you for enrollment, the customer received a Reward Card valued at 10% of all qualifying credit card pre-tax purchases made during the holiday shopping season. 100% of funds raised by this promotion are given to the local charities and donations stay in the communities where the enrollments are made. Feeding America was one of three charities benefiting in the Macy´s West service area. The promotion ran from September 21, 2008 – December 31, 2008.
