He lives in a corner of London, staying apart from most of his countryman and fellow party members. He is not doing any job neither does his wife. They are a mysterious family here. I am talking about the elder son of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.
In 2008 Tereq, the son of ex-Bangladeshi PM Zia arrived England to take refuge from then Caretaker Government. He was charged with corruption and some other criminal cases like having close relationship with terrorists. If those cases go smoothly it would be a difficult task to stop him from staying in prison for many years. So Zia´s BNP made it an issue that until or unless he is released from prison there is no chance for them to participate in the election. Caretaker Government was very serious to ensure all the major political parties are participating in the election. Ultimately they fulfilled BNP´s demand and released Tareq from prison and send him to UK said that he was too sick to treat in the country. This trick was not gone unnoticed by the media. They named him "Prince of Corruption". Tareq is very well known as a Mr. 20 Percent.
BNP has a very good relationship with Arab Countries, particularly with Saudi Arabia. In 2005, mysterious 40 boxes arrived in Saudi Arabia with a special diplomatic seal. That makes them secure from the Saudi authorities. Owner of that mysterious 40 boxes are Tareq Rahman. Those boxes were never made to Bangladesh Embassy. What were in side those boxes? Some said money, some said drug, some said weapon –but nobody is sure about it. No body has seen in side the boxes.
Tareq´s Arab connection is really very mysterious. He has visited Arab nations many times, sometimes as a government representative, sometimes as a businessman and sometimes just for a private visit. But he was nobody of the government –so visiting there as a government representative is really illogical matter, still this is a common practice of many countries to show someone as a diplomat who is actually not. Tareq has no official business in Dubai, so visiting there as a businessman is weird but the most bizarre thing is why he was visited the same country several times within in a very short time?
India´s Central Bureau of Investigation CBI published a report which mentioned Tareq met with India´s one of the notorious mafia and arm-smuggler Daud Ibrahim in a Dubai´s luxurious hotel. Report said, Daud help him to transfer illegal money and worked as a via-media to contact with Osama-Bin-Laden. Tareq signed a deal with Daud for supplying arms and explosives before the 9th Parliament election. Tareq bought a huge mansion in Dubai costing 60 million US dollar. CIB has informed these all information to the Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
Hence, in this trip Tareq was accompanied by the BNSI or Bangladesh National Security Intelligence Chief Rezzakul Haider. Both Razzak and Tereq have mentioned this is their private trip to Dubai even though they have taken money from the government.
Former Home Minister Lufuzzaman Babor has admitted this to Joint Interrogation Cell that they had several meeting with Daud Ibrahim. After checking Babor´s cal lists from his mobile phone police found Ibrahim´s number.
Local newspapers are always vocal about BNP´s bond with Islamic Militants. On May 15, 2004 a popular English daily The Daily Star raised question said "Bangla Bhai´s (name of a terrorist) outfit has BNP men´s blessing?" But BNP was always secretive about the presence of Islamic Militants. They always rejected then opposition Awamileague and media´s demand about their presence saying "Bangla Bhai is a media made person". But ultimately BNP them-selves arrested Bangla Bhai after country has experienced a fearsome nationwide bomb attack.
Tareq´s era was ended up all of a sudden when their military backed Caretaker Government came as an interim ruler. Tareq had to pay heavy toll in result of that. His lavish life was over when at last his luck stop favoring him anymore.
After warm relationship with terrorist for many years, Tareq now went to the underground. He promised to Caretaker Government that he will never come back to politics again.
Tareq is appear to be a lonely person now –or is he? A man of Doud Ibrahim was seen together with Tareq in a pub of London. Why? What was the message he brought for Tareq? Tareq has no clear source of income –but how he is maintaining his life in an expensive city like London? BNP claims after BDR mutiny some of the outsiders were managed to escape in Dubai. In some blogs some of their columnists even described how they have arrived in Dubai –do they know who those people are? Otherwise how could they know? What makes BNP so sure about the presence those mutineers in Dubai before the detective´s investigations? Does BNP know the identity of the mutineers? Do the mutineers have any connection with Daud Ibrahim? What game Tareq is playing from London?
