While working as an x-ray technician in New York, a personal injury lawyer asked me, "Why does it take so long to get x-rays copied at a hospital?" It was this question that inspired me to start my business in 1996, and is still the most frequently asked question by new and potential clients.

After having worked in busy New York hospitals, I knew the answer was simple - Priorities. Copying medical films is the least important task that falls to technicians. When there is a waiting room full of patients, it is difficult to justify removing vital manpower to work on external x-ray duplication requests. Additionally, there is the economics of it. Why would a hospital or clinic have their x-ray techs copying film for a few dollars while putting off exams that generate hundreds or even thousands of dollars? The techs are instructed to copy x-ray films when there is a slow day or when they have free time. As you can imagine, free time and slow days are practically non-existent in today´s overworked and understaffed hospitals. As a result, x-ray copy requests pile up rather quickly. Special requests like digitizing x-ray films take even longer or in some cases not even offered.

When I was first asked "Why does it take so long to get x-rays copied at hospital?" my response was, "Aren´t there any private companies that copy x-ray films?" The answer was "No". I then said, "There soon will be." I quickly decided to quit my x-ray tech job and start a company that specializes in copying medical film. My goal was to take what hospitals and clinics consider their lowest priority and make it my highest. That was in 1996 and I have never looked back.

Personal injury lawyers spend more time waiting for x-ray copies than any other professionals. Many times they must wait weeks to review a potential case. When a case does go to trial or if the lawyer wants more than one expert opinion, he or she must then get additional sets of these films. Many lawyers go back to the same hospital that made them wait weeks for the initial set of x-ray copies. This wait sometimes causes court postponements or even the need to subpoena the films. Such a wait is totally avoidable. My company, Legal X-Ray Duplicating, makes these additional copies within hours not weeks. Unlike hospitals and clinics, x-ray copying is our highest priority. So rather than going back to the hospital and waiting weeks, my clients send their films to me for quick and professional x-ray duplicating, saving them time, money and aggravation.
