Same-sex Marriage Advocate 'Desecrates' Bible in Public

As volunteers with the American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family, and Property (TFP) were distributing literature targeting lesbian and gay couples seeking marriage equality, a man purportedly displeased with the group was videotaped tearing up a Bible and shouting obscene anti-Catholic slurs at them.

Critics charge that the man was a covert operative paid by anti-gay advocates specifically to discredit same-sex marriage initiatives.

Iowa and Vermont recently adopted same-sex marriage laws and more states are expected to follow. Since these successes, there has been an increase in lies, misinformation, and violence perpetrated against lesbians and gays. Some of these Americans have been murdered just for being gay.

The incident occurred shortly after about 15 right-wing radicals and intolerant religious extremists protested in front of the New Hampshire Statehouse. Evidence suggests that one of these extremists was recruited to tear up the Bible for the cameras. The anti-gay protesters probably thought that "it would look good for the cameras" and "help to discredit" about 500 non-violent advocates of same-sex marriage who were holding a peaceful counter demonstration nearby.

The American TFP claims to be a Catholic organization even though many Catholic priests, deacons, and lay people are homosexual. Catholic priests, nuns, and monks are not allowed to marry; so many gay Catholics choose a religious vocation in the Church, where they can hide. If you are a practicing Catholic and are reading this article, you know that you have received Holy Communion from many gay men. When you go to church next Sunday, the priest who blesses the Sacrament, reads the Gospel, or hears your confession will likely be homosexual.

As gays and lesbians continue to acquire acceptance, civil rights and social justice, the number of priests and nuns in the Catholic Church has dwindled. The TFP "Catholic" protesters were notably hostile to bystanders while distributing their propaganda materials attacking marriage equality. The organization calls on others to oppose equality for lesbian and gay Americans, including equality for gay and lesbian Catholics.

To be sure every family in America has a loved one who is lesbian or gay. For example, Mary Cheney, the daughter of former Republican Vice President, Dick Cheney, is a homosexual. Unfortunately, TFP has sided with groups that are very anti-Catholic. These groups claim to be Christian, but like TFP, have decided to spread their lies and misinformation about lesbians and gays. So, few people would actually call these groups Christian.

The same group sent volunteers to California, Arizona and Florida last year to promote their hatred.
