The Secretary of the Department of Transportation has broad responsibilities which touches every citizen either directly or indirectly. The task is one which can and does have a huge impact on our transportation system. Some of the responsibilities are known while others are not so well recognized.
The responsibilities of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB)is an important one. They investigate numerous transportation accidents in the United States and sometimes assist other countries. When there are fatalities in transportation accidents it is imperitive to get answers to prevent future fatalities.
Creative thinking is something that exists everywhere but it may not be known by this term. Individuals have various talents and how they use those talents sometimes involves creative thinking. Creative thinking is thinking outside the box. It is developing new approaches to problems separate from the normal processes It is also developing new products or improving current ones to make them better. This involves thinking creatively how something can be improved or take innovative approaches to sometimes old issues.
Energy independence is an important topic today and the Department of Energy has the responsibility to address this issue for the future of our country along with Congress. We have many avenues which can be utilized with the resources we have we only need to address what they are and apply the necessary resources. Utilizing the resources we have will help I believe to have some dependence upon foreign sources of energy removed.
The Department of Commerce and all the agencies underneath it have a great impact on the economy. The activities of this department are long and address major aspects of our economy. The mission in essence is to help businesses prosper while ensuring that fair trade and compliance with laws affecting businesses are followed and if not enforced. There are many aspects of this department and each one is important.
Tort reform is a hot topic of late and their are positive and negative aspects of tort reform. There needs to be some tort reform put in place but where this should occur is the question. Consistency needs to be established in any tort reform enacted into law. Victims have a right to seek restitution but that restitution should not be inconsistent with the level of harm inflicted upon them. It is important that those responsible for any harm to victims should not be allowed to play the statistics thinking that people will not make the effort to seek restitution. Tort reform or the lack of it affects our economy in all kinds of ways such as the present cost of healthcare. The possibility of lawsuits to hospitals, doctors and pharmaceutical companies increases their cost of insurance and this increases the cost of their services.
The Federal Communications Commission is an independent agency which has broad responsibilities and authority on its shoulders. It is an agency which limits the amount of individuals in one party to sit on the commission. This is a good thing. The individuals on the commission are appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. They serve a term of 5 years.
The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency has a huges task with regards to the environment and all the regulations and laws that fall under their jurisdiction. National standards for the environment is a must and this agency is well structured to address environmental issues that surface.
The Department of Defense is a vital link in the structure and organization of the United States. The mission is to deter war and provide for the security of our country. It is a task which more difficult today than in years past but it is one that must be done. Support for the function and operations of this department must be exhibited by all citizens. Whether we agree with the policy or decisions made our troops and their families must be support and are through this department and many organizations.
The Department of Education is a vital part of our economy in preparing the students of today for the jobs of tomorrow. Our educational system is a great one but it can be better. Efforts to improve the current environment in our educational institutions is great. More accountability at all levels must be in place. This inclues, communities, teachers, administrators, parents and students.
The Department of Homeland Security provides a critical service to our country. There efforts through the resources and tools they have have kept us safe since 9/11. Recent events have provided examples of the efforts being put forth by all individuals involved with this department. Funding must always be in place for this department to accomplish their mission along with the current tools that are allowed within the patriot act and other laws and regulations.
The value of libraries cannot be underestimated. They provide a great service not only to their communities but to the country. The resources of libraries throughout the country are enormous enhanced through the technology we now have today. Libraries have adapted as many organizations have to embrace the changes in technology. They not only have a recognized benefit to their communities but there are others that can be seen through business development.
The responsibilities of the Health and Human Services Department of the United States affects every American. There are over 300 programs currently under this department and any new legislation associated with health care reform will increase these responsibilities. Understanding the responsibilities of this department is the focus of this article to help every individual understand these responsibilities. The mission is an honorable one and one which we should all embrace for our country and is something that should be considered for other countries.
Everyone talks about common sense but the question is whether we have it and how it affects our daily lives if we don't. Common sense is needed in all segments of society and as individuals we can make a difference if we engrain common sense in our daily lives. We as individuals have an impact on our environment and our environment has an impact on us. Common sense may exist in some areas of society it is much needed in all aspects such as individual, business and politics.
The process of creating legislation must instill language that the general public can understand. Legislation should be in plain terms so the public can understand the problem and the action being taken to resolve it. The saying keep it simple stupid should be applied to the legislative process. Legislation is typically too long in most cases. It is difficult for our elected officials to have the time to read each one completely though it is necessary for them to do so. Reducing the length of legislation while addressing the topic and the solution would increase the efficiency of the legislative process. This is something from which we all could benefit.
There is much legislation enacted each year at the state and federal levels. The problem with many of them is that the general public does not understand the requirements without the aid of a lawyer. While this may not always be the case it is important for legislators to understand the need of the public to understand the requirements as they apply to them. This can be as an individual or as a busness person. All legislation affects us in one way or another. It is therefore necessary for us to understand the requirements so we do not violate them.
Whether to have government solve all our problems is a question at this time. Granted there are problems which only the government can fix but society has a way of resolving some issues. The government has the responsibility to protect its citizens examples of which are national security and safety from food, drugs and products that are not manufactured or produced properly.
We as individuals face decisions every day and in many cases there is much to read and understand. It is important to read everything before placing our signature on any document. Another aspect involves our voting process. We must read and understand the issues before us before we cast our vote for or aganist the issue before us. The principle of reading a document before making a decision is a critical one for us individually and as elected officials if we hold such responsibility. Bad decisions can be made if we first do not read what we are supporting.
The Internet has both positive and negative characteristics but overall it is a boom to businesses and individuals alike. Much information can be shared which is a good thing for businesses marketing their products and services. It is also good for individuals who wish to gain exposure for their expertise. Both of these aspects can be acheived through networking various sites. Participating in forums or answering questions related to business topics or expertise helps to gain recognition.
There is no doubt that healthcare reform is needed but the question to be asked is what will be changed. Many individuals have little or no healthcare and this is a problem which needs to be properly addressed. Those who have healthcare do not want to see changes that will affect their qualit...
The Fourth of July is a national holiday but sometimes we forget to some extent the true meaning of why we celebrate it. We get wrapped up in the fireworks and the entertainment but we must not forget the sacrifices that were made to have the freedoms we enjoy. Let us celebrate our freedoms everyday not just on the fourth. Let us also recognize everyday the sacrifices other have made in the past and those who continue to do in the present by serving our county in all capacities.
Under the Constitution of the United States we have certain rights. Many of these are contained in the first ten amendments which are referred to as the Bill of Rights. We however have other rights as defined under the Constitution and laws that are enacted by state and federal legislatures. Our rights should have different interpretations from the intent of our founding fathers. Court cases involving some of these righs have had different results dependent upon where there were decided. Our court system is great and is meant to enforce the rule of law as defined under the U.S. Constitution. Our courts were not established to interpret the laws though sometimes it may be necessary concerning new laws enacted.
This article is about recognizing the talents of the American worker who have their roots from foreign lands. We are a nation of immigrants and the talents the American worker has today is result of what their ancestors brought from their countries when coming to the United States. Everyone has talents and expertise and we need to work together as a team to solve our economic problems. Teams are a good resource to bring together individuals of various talents to either solve problems or improve the processes/products now in place.
This article is about the need for ethical decisions by all those involved in the profession of journalism. Journalism has a distinct place in society and the information communicated through whatever source can impact how people think and react to news events. Journalists and this includes authors must identify their opinions when involved in their writing and make an attempt to provide the possibilities for both sides of an issue. This does not always occur and should. Providing accurate and complete information to those receiving the information would increase the positive reputation of journalism as a whole. Those who disregard the principles of integrity in journalism hurts the profession not just themselves.
Personal touch in business is something that is not talked about much but when we experience it we are a happy customer. Happy customers return to buy again. Companies in today's economy must take an interest in their customers and provide for their needs today and in the future. This includes anticipating the need for products or services that customers may not even know they need today.
The Federal courts and the Constitution have a distinct connection not only related to their existence but also their responsibilities. There are various levels of Federal courts and they have variousresponsibilities. We as individuals must understand them and how they relate to the Constitution. This article identifies how each federal court relates to the Constitution and and their distinct responsibilities. The main responsibility of a Federal judge is to interpret and apply the law to resolve issues. They do not make the laws and have no power to enforce them. It is up to the President and various federal departments to enforce court decisions.
Memorial Day is a time of remembrance for those who lost their lives defending our freedoms and our way of life. This day should not only be a time of remembrance but also a day of recognition of those still serving to protect us today. We should also remember families who have lost loved ones defending our way of life. Civilians who lost their lives in time of war should also be remembered on this day as they are no less important.
The cost of healthcare is constantly rising and something needs to be done to address the increase costs. There are many individuals who are uninsured or under insured. Many individuals have eithr lost their jobs and and their healtcare or their employers can no longer afford to pay for such benefits. There is much talk about creating a national healthcare system but to some extent we have one through Medicare and Medicaid. What needs to be done vs creating a totally new system is to make changes in the healthcare system we currently have. The changes need to address the uninsured and the under insured. This would greatly improve the quality and amount of healthcare individuals receive today.
Recent decisions by GM and Chrysler to close dealerships was a difficult one but it is one which will affect countless thousands. The process of making any decision to downsize must consider those that will be impacted. This includes not only the employees of the comapny but suppliers and communities who may already be hard hit with other closures. This causes a loss of income for communities and in some cases a loss of financial support for community activities.
The term make a difference is not something new but it can have various meanings to each of us. To me it means doing what we do best to better the lives of those around us including our families. Many fine organizations provide food for the hungry, clothing for the less fortunate and doing yard work for those that cannot do it for themselves. An act of kindness or caring can also make a difference in the lives of those who receive these kinds of acts. It is not more evident than in the healthcare industry where the treatment we receive from our doctors and nurses can make a big difference in the lives of their patients. Sometimes the discovery of an illness at an early stage by a doctor can make a difference in whether someone lives or dies. This can also be seen by the quality a patient receives from a doctor and while in a hospital. Both can make a difference in how people perceive their environment and hope for the future.
The definition of a lobbyist as identified in www.dictionary.com is a person who tries to influence legislation on behalf of a special interest; a member of a lobby. I feel this definition does not go far enough. We as citizens constantly or should continuously voice our opinion on legislation bei...
The legislative process though not complex is cumbersome and lacks the efficiency it needs to provide the best economical process to enact legislation. Legislation which addresses the same topic should be combined into one document. Input should be obtained from from all originators/sponsors to address their ideas and concerns. Legislation should have the details as to how the requirements will be implemented with the proper funding identified for the various elements/requirements. There are layers of bureaucratic review which slows the process for bills to proceed to the full legislative body for a vote. Each bill has a right to have a vote and not buried in committee. Granted there needs to be a review of the content of legislation to assure it is clear and properly identifies the details necessary to implement it including the cost.
There has been much talk about our present tax system needing change. Changing our tax system will not be an easy task and one of the options on the table is a fair tax system being processed in Congress. Any system created must be carefully considered as to affect positive change. The pros and cons of any system whether it is a fair tax system or something else must be properly analyzed for the impact and on individuals and businesses.
Both the state and federal government have responsibilities and limitations defined in the U.S. Constitution. It is important that both levels of government understand their responsibilities to assure they do not violate the responsibilities of the other. The responsibilities must also be managed efficiently and all programs evaluated for their need and success. Programs that are not successful but are necessary must be redesigned to provide more efficient use of the resources available.
Leaders are both born and bred it is the situation in which they are placed that make them leaders. As we grow we learn from our parents and school. Our character is developed as we grow and the influence others have on the principles to which we accept. Leaders in this economic times must present new ideas or convince others that ideas that were successful in the past will work in this current environment. Leaders will come from unexpected places and we must recognize their talents and expertise to help us in these times. New ideas are always going to be resisted but it is the character of our leaders who must convince us they will work regardless of how we perceive them. The ideas presently being discussed will succeed or fail based on how they address these times.
The Fairness Doctrine has been discussed in Congress several times. There are currently two efforts in Congress relative to the Fairness Doctrine. One is proposing implementation of the doctrine under the jurisdiction of the FCC. The other action is aimed at preventing the doctrine from becoming law. The point being made with the Fairness Doctrine or any legislation closely related to the principles is there needs to be a requirement to allow both sides of an issue to be heard. This is already in place with various stations and organizations promoting their viewpoints. The public has the option to hear what they want. Imposing requirements to have both sides of an issue on the same program or station will not change the habits of the public. You cannot make anyone listen to certain viewpoints by making a law.
Today it seems there is more negative talk than positive on television, radio, in the newspapers and on the Internet. While we are in this financial contraints we must also look for the positive events. There are some they just do not get the exposure they should. There are media sources that do try to provide some positive aspects and this helps individuals feel better. There needs to be better balance with news reporting and those that write about the topics in the news. When we hear or read positive things we feel better at least temporarily and this helps us to have a better perspective. Negative aspects need to be reported but also the positive. Sometimes legislation contains questionalble projects but there is usually some good that is also provided. The public needs to feel that their government at the state and federal level is fiscally sound and making good decisions. When legislation does not measure up to the standards they should the President and Governors need to take a stand and show they are making the necessary decisions to make government work for the people.
With the current economic crisis in our country and the world the issue of integrity seems to present itself. There are many companies who made bad decisions but there are also companies that are affected by the bad decisions of others with which they work. This not only affects the company but...
Government accountability at all levels must be in place for the public to have confidence. Knowing the requirements of agencies or departments helps the public to make sure the requirements of an organization are accomplished. Various government entities provide critical services which cost taxpayer dollars. These dollars must be spent wisely. Reduced income to government entities should cause an evaluation by governments at all levels to evaluate their spending. When we as individuals have reduced income we must reduce our expenditures where possible so our bills are paid and we have food and a roof over our heads. Reduction of income into a government entity should also force them to adjust their spending habits.
The right of free speech and the relationship to the 1st Amendment is an important one. We as individuals must ensure that the laws associated with the Federal Communication Commission are not changed to require enforcement of the Fairness Doctrine. The Fairness Doctrine or anything like it under another name could change the way talk radio operates by requiring stations to present opposing views. Today opposing views are freely presented through other stations and laws to make changes on where opposing views are broadcasted will affect the way talk radio operates and the information that we may hear. We have the right to choose what we want to hear. Forcing operational changes to talk radio or any other media resource to present both sides of an issue affects, in my opinion, the essence of the 1st Amendment which gives us the right of free speech.
Talk radio is an important resource for the public to learn about various viewpoints on issues of the day. The current technology has caused an increase in the availablility of the average American to create a talk radio program that lets their voices be heard. Granted there are limitations on libel and slander that being said individuals can present their views to anyone who will listen. We have a right to our opinion and when we have resources to present that opinion more than what was available in the past it is a good thing. Freedom of speech is a right we as Americans should not let go by the wayside. Presently there are efforts in Congress to change this perspective through the philosophy of the Fairness Doctrine. This would change the way talk radio operates and lessen the value of talk radio in my opinion.
Today there are many work rules/policies that are in place in many organizations. These rules are meant to provide some degree of control of issues in the work place. Sometimes these rules while their purpose may have good intentions interfere with worker efficiency and productivity. Employers need to be cognizant of the fact that some policies may interfere with needs of their employees thereby affecting productivity and burnout. This may occur in repetitive tasks typically associated with functions/responsibilities that are performed on computers.
Current congressional legislation leaves much to be desired. Many times the content is vague or refers to other legislation within the body of the bill. Legislation needs to stand on its own with all the details within one document. This is how a responsible decision can be made on any legislation before a legislative body. Legislation which is clearly written can avoid the cost of getting interpretations from lawyers and may help to reduce court battles.
The right to own firearms has been confirmed by the U.S. Supreme Court on June 26, 2008. Today their is a new house resolution that wants to make changes in the way citizens purchase a firearm. The details of the process in house resolution 45 raises a lot of questions. There are currently thousands of laws in effect through the states concerning the purchase of firearms and the new resolution is not meant to preempt any state law. The details of the current resolution broadens the responsibilities of the Attorney General and the Department of Justice which must be carefully examined before proceeding further.
The process of getting elected to office can be impaired by lack of campaign funds but it does not need to be. There are many avenues available to get the word out about a candidate's position on the issues and why they are running for office. The media seems to concentrate on the amount of money a candidate receives and not the positions a candidate has on the issues. This is not necessarily a bad thing as it is an indication of the support a candidate may have but it should not be the deciding factor in making the decions as to who we support. The candidates must provide avenues for the public to gain information about them as individuals and why they are running for office. We as individuals must make the effort to learn about candidates running for office whether it is local, state or federal. It is our responsibility to make a good voting decision at election time.
Our legislative process is a great one but it is lacking one important aspect. The line item veto. Many Presidents have asked for this authority but have not succeeded in achieving it. The line item veto is a viable tool for either a Governor or the President. It allows better control over legislation presented for approval by the ability to remove those projects which have no relaltionship to the legislation being presented. Governors and the President need line item veto authority to help them control government spending if the legislature does not.
The American Flag has been used to protest many issues both in the United States and foreign countries. It has been through much since the country began. Using the flag to protest actions or issues is a right Americans have regardless of how we feel as individuals. It is one of the rights this country was built upon. The citizens of the United States have liberties and freedomes that many in other countries only hope to have. It is also true that it is something that everyone recognizes as a symbol of what our country stands for and there are those who wouldl like to destroy it. While we cannot control the actions of others in foreign lands we should take action to examine the reasons those who protest use the American flag. We should not condemn these actions but look to the cause and make efforts to change the reason for the protest if it is at all possible.
The present electoral college and convention delegate system needs to change to reflect the votes actually cast in each of the states. There needs to be a proportional distribution of the votes to reflect all the parties that have run for President. This will provide better recognition of all votes cast rather than a winner-take all philosophy which is present in many states.
The over 50 generation is continuing to grow and we as a society must be supportive of their right to contribute to society. While some are on social security it does not mean they are ready to quit society. Many are capable and want to work but restrictions in place force them to retire after a certain age. This is wrong. I applaud those companies who allow older Americans to contribute to their organization. Many bring expertise and a work philosophy that younger generations can learn from by example.
Today many issues face state and federal legislatures and hard decisions will need to be made. We may not always agree with the decisions but it is important to voice our opinion on issues of the day and those that are important to us as individuals and for our families. We as voters must communicate with our senators and representatives and keep ourselves informed about issues before each legislature. Both the state and federal legislatures will need to make hard decisions in the current financial crisis which affects every part of society. If we communicate our opinions at least they will know the will of the people to help them determine the decisions to be made.
The present financial crisis is something that needs to be addressed at both the state and federal level. The need for financial relief is widespread but the state and federal governments cannot bailout everyone. We as individuals must take responsibility for the decisions we have made whether it is as a business person or personally. Management in various industries make bad decisions everyday but it is not the responsibility of government to bailout companies or industries when things go wrong. Granted the government has some connection to the cause of the present financial crisis and some help may be needed but this help and how much must be carefully considered as to not mortgage our children's future with high debt. Individuals must take responsibility for their actions.
There are good home warranty companies and there are bad ones. Home warranty companies must be honest with their potential customers when discussing contractual terms. Any exclusions to paying for costly repairs or replacements must be identified upfront before a contract is signed. Home warranty companies should treat their customers with the respect they deserve and not use any excuse to not cover expenses that were implied at the time the contract was signed. Exclusions such as pre-existing conditions on an older home must be identified upfront or companies face negative advertising from unsatisfied customers.
The practice of commuting sentences of criminals receives wide attention when they occur. This is as it should be. Commuting sentences of those convicted of a crime affects the judicial system. The President and the governors of the states have the power to make decisions to commute sentence...
Executive orders are part of state and federal governments. They give direction to either state officials or federal officials under the jurisdiction of a Governor or the President. Much talk has been given recently on executive orders and actions to review those now in place. While this is something that has been normal when administrations change the actions taken need to be carefully considered. The impact of cancelling or revising any executive orders in place. The public position on any issues covered by executive orders must be considered before decisions are made.
Outsourcing has been in the news but people must understand the concept and when it makes sense and when it does not. Companies use outsourcing all the time but when they do so they must do it for the right reasons. The use of outsourcing is present in the United States. Outsourced jobs exist in the United States not just in foreign lands. Outsourcing decisions must be closely examined to assure the results are what a company wants to achieve. Many times outsourcing operations or functions have some negative results which would not have occurred if they had remained within the control of the company.
The choices we have in this election year will change the course of our country. Each candidate has a plan for the issues but the important thing to ask ourselves when we make our decisions is what direction do we want our country to take. Each vote is important in this election year and I believe one vote can make a difference in election results. Just one vote in each county in each state can change outcome.
Celebrity endorsements seem to be more prevalent in this election year. The question remains if they have an impact on voters. Celebrity endorsements are great for candidates but the average voter should decide for themselves who to vote for not who has endorsed their candidate of choice. We must look at the reasoning if it is given and why they have made that choice as part of our overall assessment of each candidate running for office.
Electing Senators and Representatives at the state and federal levels is an important responsibility. We need to have individuals who not only are committed to serving the public but who has good character and exhibits integrity principles in their actions. The words they state should match their actions/votes. There votes if they are or have been in office must agree with what they say they will do, if not they should not be elected or re-elected to office. We have had enough scandals in our government and industry and must show our elected officials we demand integrity in doing their jobs.
This election year provides choices that will change the course of our country. We must elect an individual with good character and integrity principles which have been verified by documentation. With the financial crisis there are issues of decisions made which ignored conditions which caused the present crisis. The examples that have been in the news with private industry should tell us we need to change the culture in Washington. This starts with the office of President. Let us elect someone who will not settle for the status quo and shake up Washington in how it conducts business.
The talk about regulation or deregulation is confusing today. There are benefits of regulation but only for certain industries and situations. Regulations add cost both to the government and private companies. Time and money must be allocated by the government to monitor government regulations to assure they are not being violated. Private companies must assign responsibility to individuals to assure they do not violate regulations which are applicable to their business.
Each of us have varied responsibilities and honoring them or not affect the lives of others. We as parents have responsibilities and if we fail to take them seriously if will affect the lives of our children as long as they live. We also have responsibilities in our jobs to perform our duties. Customers expect that the products or services which they purchase have been generated through the efforts of those who comply with their responsibilities. Society today has seen many instances where individuals or companies have not lived up to their responsibilities. Companies and individuals must be accountable for their actions. Their conduct and decisions have an impact on the health of their company, their employees and families, their stockholders and their customers.
First responders are great individuals who are their to help pick up the pieces after disaster strikes. These individuals are constantly ready to respond to events such as hurricanes, floods, fire, and tornadoes among others. I feel that we should take time to praise their efforts not only in times of disaster but always. These individuals leave their family, friends and co-workers to help those in need and we should be eternally grateful for their dedication and support.
The way non-professional sports outside of a school environment are managed in some cases leave a lot to be desired. League administrators have a responsibility to provide proper safety equipment and suitable playing fields. It is also a responsibility to establish rules to follow and enforce which instill common sense in establishing the teams. Once teams are established there should be no action to remove a player from a team because he/she is too good. It is also inappropriate to make attempts to disband any team that fights such decisions. Teams as a rule have varying levels of talent and all teams in a league should be required to play each other at least once in a season. Teams should not be declared ineligible to play in championship playoffs when their records says otherwise.
Today companies have a right to expect their employees to accomplish their responsibilities. Employees have a right to expect the appropriate pay consistent with their responsibilities, knowledge and performance. Those who have the responsibility for establishing pay for jobs must remember the human side of an organization. They need to remember that workers are individuals and deserve to be treated as such. Many companies are cutting cost through reductions of employee numbers. It must be remembered that there is a certain amount of required work to be performed. Individuals who take on new duties or responsibilities should be appropriately paid based on industry standards for the jobs they are doing. Companies must remember the human factor of running an organization and that the work would not get done if it were not for those who take their responsibilities seriously. Cutting cost is an important consideration but with the reduction of employees those who take on additional functions/responsibilities should be paid for their efforts. This means that cost measures should not be taken to the point that the pay for specific levels of expertise/responsibilities is less than the industry standard.
Recently there have been problems with product deficiencies such as toys and food. The notification process needs to be refined. The process, requirements and responsibilities of companies who exhibit product deficiencies must be defined to enable notification to customers of products involved. Where traceability of customers for products exist notification should be made to customers of the problem identified. Some product deficiencies can affect safety of customers and can lead to accidents, injuries and/or death. It is the responsibility of companies to notify customers of product problems. Whee traceability does not exist mechanisms need to be defined to communicate to customers of the problem. There are requirements in each state regarding notification requirements for product deficiencies but they appear to not be consistent. This needs to be corrected.
The issue of profiting from legislation has been in the news. Congressmen have been identified as profiting from legislation enacted for the district they represent. Congressmen have a right to own property and earn a profit when they sell. Ethics rules in the House of Representatives have requirements which must be followed by members, officers and staff. Congressmen have access to information that is not available to the general public. The details of recent events may not have violated the rules in effect for the House of Representatives but the issue raises questions. Owning property is a risk in the hope of making a profit when it is sold. If the risk is minimized by the use of information not available to the general public to make a profit, it is wrong and unethical.
The need for integrity in lawsuits today is great based upon excessive amounts awarded which do not have a good correlation with the facts. It appears that some decisions made are a result of the ability of the defendant to pay. This is wrong. Decisions made to award damages in lawsuits must be based upon the facts including contributing factors by both parties not the ability to pay by the defendant (s). Lawsuits which would be considered to be frivolous in many eyes must have limits on the amount of damages which can be awarded. This would not violate a individual rights for seeking restitution but it may reduce the amount of cases knowing high dollar amounts of the award are reduced.
This election year is a critical one as it will determine the direction our country will take. There are many issues which need to be decided but they need to be decided by qualified voters. Today there are news events which indicate that unethical practices are taking place in voter registration drives. While this may not apply to all voter registration drives the integrity of the process comes into question with the reported news events. Every person has a right to be registered if they meet the requirements of citizenship, age and residential requirements. Those who are not citizens or who have violated certain laws are not qualified and should not be able to cast a ballot. Controls need to be in place to validate all newly registered voters to assure they meet the qualifications.
To discuss the integrity of role models we must first understand what is represented
by the term. According to dictionary.com a role model is "a person who is unusually effective or inspiring in some social role, job, etc. and so serves as a model for others"
According to Merriam-Webster it...
The current process in place in Congress does not appear to be working efficiently. The low approval rating of Congress signals that changes need to take place so legislation is prioritize to address critical needs. The actions or inactions presently taking place in Congress is not conducive to a working relationship between the parties represented. Critical issues need to be addressed to resolve problems and reduce the stress on the American people.
Trade agreements have been in the news in the past and I believe they will be in the news in the future in this an election year. Trade agreements is something that should be generated as they create jobs in the export industry. Trade agreements must be beneficial to all the parties involved as without this condition the chances for success/approval is reduced. Trade agreements may be difficult for some companies but if they are strong and have a good product for which other countries would be interested they open new markets with less restrictions. Granted there needs to be some restriction on exporting technology or materials which may hurt our national security but overall trade agreements have a positive impact on our economy.
