Ventura County Contractors Association, National Association of Women in Construction awards over $13,000 in scholarships
On May 19, VCCA awarded 10 students $8,350 in academic scholarships. Four other students received $4,000 in scholarships from the local chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC). Additionally, NAWIC sponsored a CAD drafting contest and Lego´s building project, awarding an additional $1,000 to four local students.

This year 247 businesses, 50 schools and 18 neighborhood drives joined FOOD Share to tackle hunger. From superintendents to kindergarteners, eight Pleasant Valley Schools supported the drive to tackle hunger by donating 10,060 lbs. of food, while Simi Valley´s Royal High contributes 15,425 lbs and John C. Fremont Intermediate School in Oxnard brings in 3,475 lbs.
The economic downturn, rising unemployment and food costs have created a tough environment for many this holiday season. Many people are finding themselves having to call on their local food bank for support. In response to increasing demand for food assistance in our surrounding communities, the Amgen Foundation recently made contributions totaling $200,000 to assist food banks through the holidays, including a $75,000 grant to FOOD Share of Ventura County.
